I want to upgrade to a 6600gt, but I dont see that happening as soon as I hoped. I am wondering what kind of results people have achieved in Battlefield 2 using a 5200 card, which I currently own. Thanks for the help guys.

Um....are you not a native english speaker? your proficle says you are from CA, but...😕

Sorry for the pseudo flame...anyway

Why not just D/L the demo and see if your current rig will run it acceptably. It IS free, after all. 😀

I am wanting to is a perfectly valid statement. I hear people use it all the time and I live in Florida.

And I cant download at the moment, my computer mobo went out, and I am looking to upgrade. I will upgrade my video card if it will not play Battlefield 2. That is the reason I was asking.

Weird. It's a poor word choice, since 'want,' a verb fits better than combining the verb 'am' and the adjective 'wanting.' I've honestly never heard a native english speaker say it that way (maybe I just didn't notice 😕[/b]). Anyway, I don't want this to dissolve into a grammar nazi thread, so...

ah. Well, good luck. I don't have a 5xxx so I can't say, but if it runs on an 8500 I'd imagine it can't be THAT bad on a 5200.

yeah...well..."minimum requirements" and "minimum playable requirements" are two different things I guess. but that's odd because medium 800x600 isn't bad at all. in the min requirements i saw they said the card needed to have shader model 1.4. all FX series, 8500+ support this IIRC. OP, 6600gt would be a perfect upgrade. with the 6600gt, you should be able to do 1280x1024 high no aa/af, or 1024x768 medium, 4xaa/16xaf. it all depends if you can live with medium 800x600 or not.

Probably for the same reason EA doesn't officially support Win2k: to avoid extra support calls.

Some benches of a 5700LE here. IIRC, a 128-bit 5200 may be comparable. A 64-bit 5200 may be futility incarnate.

Pressure, "I am wanting" may be a valid sentiment, but it's not correct English, AFAIK.

Yeah that's true. My friend has a 256MB FX5200 I think. If such a thing doesn't exist, I'm sure it's a 128-bit/128 MB, not a 64-.

Technically it should be correct but I haven't heard it being used very often. "I am" indicates a state of being, and "wanting" describes that state. There's three ways to conjugate a verb in English. "I want", "I do want", and "I am wanting". It's the same thing as saying "I am skiing", except it doesn't mean the same thing of course. </grammar-naziism> 😀

Do yourself a favor and upgrade the vid card too. You will be glad you did. My 6600 cost $128 and runs the demo well. A used 9800 Pro would do you well too...

AFAIK is not correct English either.
Just Kidding. 🙂

I forgive typos. 😀

Officially its not supported, I don't have that card so I would'nt know anyway. Maybe you can get it to work though, but I seriously doubt that you'd get a decent framerate of any sort.

6600GT can run it fine with full everything. Trust me... I have one. I would upgrade to one of these if your looking for a cheep card.

lol come on So this is the internet...theres all sorts of localized languages and slang terms being thrown around, you cant just expect people to speak in that BBC english thats 100% correct

what he read makes perfect sense....however i dont type how i speak most of the time, im almost a geordie (newcastle/sunderland/middlesbrough area in UK) alot of people wouldnt understand the slang i use when i speak

Actually whatt is funny is that I would actually say "Well I am wanting....." in real life, not just typing. What is even funnier is that i asked about the compatibility of a video card and it turned into a English lesson. Crazy internet.

Haha. Sorry, I tend to be picky about my english. As I said, there was nothing wrong materially with it, it was just (from my POV) strange.

Sorry I sparked such craziness guys, I guess I spend too much time in OT 😱

(At least I don't venture into P&N :Q)
