With 2 gig of ram, I played on a non-rank server last night and it was very smooth the whole time, even loading time seems to improve. The maps are great, but I wish there were some jungle maps for some guerrila warfare.

BF2 still has the issue with teammates showing up with red text over their head. Happened on one of the ranked servers I was playing on and everyone was inadvertently teamkilling.

2gigs shouldn't be required, it runs perfectly fine on my A64 3000+, 6600GT, and 1gig of ram. The only problem I have is that ranked servers are extremely laggy, but not non-ranked. Also the filters suck terribly, you check not full, etc. but they still show full servers more than anything.

apparently 2 gigs of ram makes the ranked servers not lag anymore...

make sure you press "apply filters" when you make a change..
it works fine.

2gigs of ram does nothing for lag on ranked servers, i have 2 gigs of ram, and was running a 29 ping, and it still ran like trash today.

Turning down the sound settings to midrange will also help free up 200+ megs of ram if you really like your cool lighting. that really helped the game run better for me, you don't have as many sounds in the background to help set the mood but as long as I can hear some one sneaking around my base I'm fine with that.

Kinda funny that we spend $300-$500 (and some $1000) for thease great geaming cards that should run anything and it's Ram that kills this game.

Well, back to annoyances: I HATE the fact that I need an Internet connection for SINGLE PLAYER (aka: OFFLINE PLAY!!!!!). I have a less-than-reliable broadband connection, and when it goes south on me, I load up the single player version of my games. Why the FVCK do I have to log in with an account on EA in order to fire up single player???

Some of these jackass companies are far more interested in keeping tabs on you and your CD key than they are making sure that the game is user-friendly and accessible.

Damn EA bastards.

Great game, DICE... shame you couldn't publish your own work instead of having to support a bottomfeeding company like EA.

2. Manage Accounts
3. Create Account
4. Accept Terms
5. Select the Single Player tab
6. Enter name for your offline account.
7. Log in as your offline account (no internet necessary)

I guess I gotta give up on playing on ranked servers, 2 gigs is in the mail. But at this point I dont beleave its gonna help. ranked servers are unplayable

Ranked servers are my hangup to but in a different way. Apparently not just anybody can become a ranked server, only ones permitted to by EA and I'm sure there's some cash exchange going on as well. What a load of bullcrap. I run an independent server that runs just fine but nobody wants to play on it since it's not ranked.

I've been searching around forums trying to figure out why this game would not install for me for 2 days and have heard from a few places that people who have the AGP version of this card can not install it. It will not install no matter which version of the game you have (CD or DVD)

I've found some of the non-EA ranked servers that are running the 16 or 32 maps are OK.

My gripes (besides those already listed)... perhaps I'm missing something, but why can't I see what server I'm on once I'm in? And why doesn't it remember when I get back to the server browser? To my mind, the one I was playing on should still be highlighted, but it isn't.

I also thought there was supposed to be some way to find your friends and what server they're on?

Why aren't the BFHQ stats listed on the web somewhere, so I don't have to load the game to view them?

Also why do all the intro movies load every time you start the game? Sure Ill watch them once, but that's enough. I don't need to see "EA"... "DICE"... and the intro movie every time. (Yes I know that I can rename or delete the movies, or hit escape to skip the intro movie, but I shouldn't have to.)

There are many people running those exact cards on these forums, and even in this thread. Just look at what they did and try the same.

Yes, the "official" EA servers suck though.

If you go to the Map Briefing tab after the round is over, it'll show you the IP. Do soBEFORE you click the "join" button.

You can delete the movies. They're in the Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies\ folder.

You can delete (or move\rename) everything in there EXCEPT

Assigning keys are a bit painful. I kept getting "Duplicate key found in Commom controls" so I systematically cleared the entire Common controls screen and STILL got the same error message. I'm using v1.02 btw. I've got a great screen shot of this, but don't know how to post it.

Is there a way to disable the player spoken commands, like Need Medic, Need Ammo, Enemy Spotted, ie Radio?

Some assh*le started spamming these commands last night and it totally ruined the game. People started killing him but they got banned from the server. The voting system is just retarded....there were like 64+ players, 20 something voted to kick him, but 40 something was required. Most people don't stop playing to vote, and the other side can't here the spamming so they don't know why the guy should be kicked. So the guy just stayed on and ran everyone off the server. Total bullsh*t.

Yeah, now with a good couple of week's play in this game, it is refreshing to crank up DOOM3/UT2004 and enjoy unspoiled gameplay and awesome graphics.

I wish EA would get their sh*t together and patch this mother.

It's retarded to expect 2gig for satisfactory play. Specs below.

My main problem: after about 30-90 minutes of online play (medium settings, FPS is a crappy 10~15 FPS) I get total shuttering. When I quit and check Task Manager, I see BF2 still running with a maxxed pagefile of 1.1 G! Total memory leak?

3500+, 6800GT, 1gig

I feel your pain...I can't get any of my custom key bindings to work because of that bullsh!t.


On a seperate note how do you check the FPS ?


I have an issue that you can't hit the windows key to drop out of the game...I can't tell you how many times it has locked up on me in the map selection...cause it is either searching for info for the map or what ever...or it just hangs...and there is no damn way out of the main screen once that happens...


basically have to reboot the PC...


There are others...such as LAG when playing ranked servers...and not being able to hit a pig in the ass with a handful of rice from 2 feet away with most weapons...
