Since I know I'm not the only one that is having 'fun' getting Battlefield 2 to run for more than one hour, let?s hear what other issues you guy's have found and ways to fix them until EA gets around to fixing it themselves.

I will try to update this as much as I can, and I will also mark fixes that work with a **Confirmed** above it so that you will know more that one guy has tried it.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Issues found* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

1. Ranked severs seem to lag a great deal more than non-ranked.
Fix: None yet

2. Battlefield 2 doesn?t like most CD emulation software.

Fix: try updating your software to the latest version or disable the software. This may also help

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Game performance Tips* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

1. By turning off dynamic lighting and shadows you can free up a lot more RAM I have found, and one thing this game loves is to use up ALL of your RAM (I have 1Gig and it still has to use a page file now and then). I don?t really miss the nifty lighting, mainly because the game is not running at -5 FPS (and not crashing).

2. Turn off or configure any firewall software you may he running in the background. Also turn off any Anti-virus software you may have.

3. 32 player sever may be a better option for those that don't have more than 1gig of Ram.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Game play Tips & tricks* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

1. After firing a RPG continue to hold fire and you can steer the missile to your target.

2. RPG?s can also be used on helicopters. Two well placed missiles on most choppers can bring them down or make the driver retreat or bail.

3. When you get locked in a battle with some one face to face and you both run out of ammo at the same time, don?t play the reloading game. Pull out your hand gun and pop the S.O.B before he even has a chance to fight back. You my think this is common sense but I can?t tell you how may guys I kill this way.

4. If you are in air to air combat and get a lock on some one, keep your lock on him but wait to fire until after he has freaked out and fired his counter measures. Now he has no way of avoiding your missiles, get a good lock on him and put two right up his arse!

Turn off ZoneAlarm or configure ZoneAlarm to give BF2 unlimited access if you are experiencing lockups at startup or lockups at server-join while running ZoneAlarm in the background.

If you have a Gig or less stay on 32 player or smaller maps, you won't have the lag.... Or nearly as much... :D

How are the game loading times for you guys? When I play single player (haven't gone online yet), the game takes FOREVER to load up. I'm figuring in the area of 1min or more. To me, that's completely unacceptable!

I created a local 32 player Gulf of Oman map in the demo. Medium details @ 1600x1200

51.80 seconds between pushing the "start server" button, load up, verify, and being able to pick my class.

AXP 2500+, 1GB of ram

First load up single or online is slow for me, about 1 minute total for loading and client verify. A little faster the next time through. Most of the time seems to be client verify.

How do you like the single player?

EDIT: A64 3200+, 6600GT, 1GB

Never messed with the demo, so those numbers don't mean much.

It's times like these when it's fun to load up Quake 3 and play something instantly that is fun for hours. :p

I have been playing the demo. I came up with an official name for it crapware. It freezes runs slow, and then sometime runs just fine. The graphics arent even that good. I have everything turned up to high 1024X768 and it still doesn't satisfy me. Doom3 and half life 2 have ruined gaming experiences for me. Anyways bf2 needs alot of work.

On a good day i can play it fine no lag spikes nothing, but any other time it plain out sucks.

I've been playing on official EA ranked servers and have gotten a lot of lag, far more than I ever got with the demo. It's interesting to hear that non-ranked servers aren't lagging as much, I will have to check that out.

The problem that I've run into is that my stats from ranked servers don't show up for me. I'll get notices of medals during the game, but when I check the BFHQ, all my stats are blank. Has anyone else had this or heard of this?

I should have known better than to buy an online game during the first week of release. The game IS a blast when everything works well though.

I couldn't even play the damn game! I installed it, but it said I have CD emulation software on my PC (which I do), and it told me to disable it to play. I disabled (exitted) Daemon Tools, but it still said I couldn't play.

WTF! CD-Rom Emulation is not just for pirating! EA can lick my taint.

the game is just as nice looking as any of those in high with AA and AS turned on..

yes it has some issues mainly becasue most people dont have enough system to run it...

they should have put 2 gigs REQUIRED not recommended..
as well as 6600+ required...
becasue anything else just isnt cutting it..

I have daemon tools running and I didn't get a message to turn it off, I've been playing fine with it running too. I have Daemon Tools 3.47.

I don't mess around with emulation software because of that, I just use no-cd patches.

I would post a link but I don't think the Mod's would like that very much.

Ok, is it just me, or is the server browser just flat out broken. First of all, it really moves unreasonably slow. The Unreal Tournament 2004 server browser is about a year older, has the same number of game options and moves twice as fast, easily. I also can't get the "no full" filter to work. Whenever I try to use it, most of the servers it shows are full. So, I end up clicking server to server trying to find a free spot in a game. Of course, the browser moves so slow that this is basically a crap shoot. I can handle the long load times, since that only happens once every 3 rounds, but the server browser is terrible.

yeah it's slow for me too when scrolling. i just write down the IP of the servers I visit frequently and enter that directly (is there a favorites list in bf2 like ut?)

2gigs shouldn't be required, it runs perfectly fine on my A64 3000+, 6600GT, and 1gig of ram. The only problem I have is that ranked servers are extremely laggy, but not non-ranked. Also the filters suck terribly, you check not full, etc. but they still show full servers more than anything.

apparently 2 gigs of ram makes the ranked servers not lag anymore...

make sure you press "apply filters" when you make a change..
it works fine.

What's the difference between ranked servers and non-ranked servers? If the game runs fine on NR servers, but lags on the ranked ones, then I don't see how going from 1GB of RAM to 2GB would make any difference.
