I tried googling but nothing I could find helped me.

I am getting the "There is a problem with your connection" error while playing online. It's really frustrating and I know there is nothing wrong with my connection.
I've tried disabling VOIP and it didn't help. I also tried disbaling one core while playing without success.

I did see some threads mentioning to forward certain ports in the router but never could find out exactly which ports. ALso saw mention of that not helping some people.

I can play other games online perfectly fine (ie. F.E.A.R.) and I've done a dslreports speed test and my upload and download speeds are fine. I don't have any IM, email type programs running.

ANyone else have this issue or have any info on it?????

Probably not likely that this is it, but in the rare case that you use a wrt54g...

I flashed to dd-wrt and I noticed that mucking with the
"Adminitration" (tab) >> "IP Filter Settings (adjust these for P2P)" section
caused me connection issues. I had to leave that part on default settings to get BF 2142 to work (never tried using those settings with BF2). I am pretty sure it was the TCP/UDP Timouts that were causing the issue.

I have a wrt54gs I think. It's the one with speedbooster. I also found the ports that they recommend opening and it did not help.
May just sell the game online but then I thought I heard the key code is locked to your account??????
Really ticks me off.

The key is NOT locked to your account. You can use any valid cd key with any account on any computer and as long as 2 PCs don't try to use the key at the same time you're fine.

Does this occur everytime you play in a fairly regular amount of time of playing? Are you on wireless?

Perhaps try installing a free software firewall (I like Kerio or Sygate), or even just using XP SP2s firewall, then plug your computer directly into your modem and try playing that way. If you don't get the same problem, it would point to your router being the problem, otherwise plug back into the router and figure out where the problem is on your computer.

This occurs sometimes when Punkbuster is trying to update in the background while you are playing. The most recent version for BF2 is October 24, 2006. There is a link to download it manually here.

It occurs every time I play. Over the last three nights, for example, tow of the nights it did it once every 3-5 minutes or more. The otehr night only did it twice within roughly 30 minutes.

I'll try that. I did see a site mention a way to get the punkbuster to check less often and it wouldn't cause you to get booted or anything. I didn't try that but might do that tonight.

I tried the punnkbuster update. Not sure if I did it right though.
After three quick attempt throughout this evening two have resulted in BF2 craching to the desktop within a minute or two of play. Not sure if i's related to the punkbuster update I tried????

desperate plea for any other ideas???

Actually I did uninstall BF2. Cleaned the registry with anyhting associated with it and will try to install it by this weekend. Not sure that will make a difference since this was on a fresh install of XP to begin with.
