Battlefield 2 connection problems

I have the following:

939 X2 3800+
Epox nforce4 mobo
integrated GB networking
ATI x850
2GB PC4200
5 HDs

I've been getting "your connection has been lost" errors very frequently when playing online. My roommates do not have this problem when we're all playing together. The one guy has a C2D and the other an athlon xp. I've read a lot of tips online to fix this and I've tried updating punkbuster and forcing core affinity and I can't get the problem to go away. Does anyone know how to fix this?

This phenomenon is called "Crappy network coding"

BF2 is notorious for having some of the worst network code ever, which is weird considering it's basically an online only game.

If you are on a router or server, that may be the problem/

so tried putting my PC on the DMZ on my router, but it didn't make a difference. Does that mean I need a new router? why are my roommates able to play just fine but I can't?
