Joystiq - Up to 24 players battling it out on Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. This is supposed to be built on the Battlefield: Bad Company engine so, if the video in the link is correct, we should see stuff falling apart when it gets shot.

I'm impressed that they are going to be able to get this out via PSN and XBL. I'm sure they've DLC planned for this also.

edit3: Just got a tweet from the Battlefield 1943 devs that the 360 version is coming on the 8th and the PS3 version is coming on the 9th.

Video looks good, like it could be fun ... It'd be cool if they released Heroes with ad support though.
 
Looks like it could be some fun. I've disliked any Battlefield game that wasn't set during WWII. I dunno why, but I feel the Battlefield games play best for that period.
 
So, this is stand-alone DLC? I wonder how big it'll be. I love the Wake Island map. Played it for hours in BF1943 and BF2. I was surprised it wasn't included in BF:BC.
 
24 players on Xbox and PSN? Are they planning on running dedicated servers for this game for the consoles?
 
Cool, I'm looking forward to this. The Frostbite engine is fairly impressive, I'll be glad to see more of it. I actually just bought a copy of Bad Company on eBay last night for $16 to play with a friend online on the PS3.
 
sounds awesome. bad company was an very solid game. just none of my friends got it, so i never played it that much.

but still, i have high hopes for BFBC2. should be a stellar title.

thats all it said. for a XBLA game, that's not bad. and as stated above, more will probably come in DLC.

this looks to be a step up for what XBLA games can be.
 
BF1942 was one of the best games ever %100 pure fun, I have been waiting for a game that has 1942 content with better graphics for a long time!
I can't wait to play Guadalcanal, Al-Alamein and Ioa Jeema again! Yay Summer 😉
 
Kotaku previewed this today at the New York Comic-Con.

I don't really mind any of these. I like the CoD4/Killzone2 health system. Unlimited ammo seems a bit weird, but how often do you run out of ammo in online games anyway? Three classes will be fine as long it's assault, demo, and sniper type classes.

Article says it's scout (sniper), infantry and rifleman ( 😕 ). It also implied that these three classes would encompass the abilities of the old classes. I imagine infantry will have a SMG/AR, rifleman will have a rifle (...). Who knows who will have the ability to fix stuff and blow shit up.

I read that all classes will have some sort of heavy explosive weapon for taking on tanks and heavy armor.

The game is a departure from the regular line, but it's an XBLA game. It's meant to be a fun, pick-up game. I'll definitely purchase it. I really like the Frostbite engine and the Wake Island map. I guess this was the developers answer to the 'no planes?!' complaints in BF:BC.
 
I thought it was coming out this week as well. Various sites are putting up previews but nothing came out about it being delayed or anything.
