BF1942 was awesome. Desert Combat was legendary. When BF2 came out, I was happy to see that it was modern combat, but the fact that gameplay was entirley different made it a dissapointing release. Actually, i recently bought BF2 to play again since I now had a machine more than capable of playing it, and I can't believe I spent as much time playing this horrible game as I originally did. Probably had to do with the money I spent upgrading my old rig just to play it.
I remember reading one of the game designers for DC say that they modeled the flight behavior of the helicopters in DC to be like that of RC ones in real life. No wonder it was so much fun! This made flying a skill that felt deep and intricate, and repeatable upon knowledge. The choppers in BF2 with their clumsy maneuvers and auto pilot hover has taken almost all the fun out of flying. Add to the fact that all you hear nonstop is excessively loud missile warning tones and I am ready to exit the game after 5 mins.
I stopped playing DC because there were no more than a handful of cheat packed servers left. Did it ever make a comeback? I really hope EA makes BF3 resemble DC for flight characteristics and map size/style, otherwise it will be a letdown again for avid 1942/DC fans.
