My old 1942 clan still has a pretty active 1942 server.. The Lazy Bastards.

Last I looked it was one of the few remaining busy servers so look them up if you want a game or two.

I miss hearing the buzz of an A-10 while driving a tank and knowing you were in deep crap.
I got to be a fairly good Hind pilot as well, the choppers in BF2 just don't handle right comparatively.

Project Reality for BF2 is pretty stellar. I like it a lot more than the DC mod for 1942 which is the 2nd best mod every for any game.

PR -> BF2
DC ->BF1942
CS/CS:S -> HL/HL2
DoD/DoD:S -> HL/HL2
Alien Swarm -> UT2k4

I'd install BF1942 again if it supported widescreen but alas its a bit too old. BF2 barely has palatable WS support as it is.

I still play it every now and then. DC, Forgotten Hope, War Front, Battlegroup 42, Silent Heroes, Surreal, etc.

I was thinking about reinstalling this as it is my favorite, even with the fubar vehicle weapon ballistics. The arty feature of this game is something I miss from 2/2142.

Lazy Bastards!!! I wasn't in the clan but I ALWAYS played on their server. I haven't play that in ages but it was a great game with the DC mod.

Hehe I still play from time to time, always looking to knock aircraft out of the sky with the howitzers :p

Never played on that server though, might just fire it up now and take a look.

Hmm just checked, says I am in need of a patch, anyone know about this?

Might still be my favorite multiplayer game of all time. Racing across the map in Jeep, using the battleship to light up a base, crawling on your belly through the grass, ah man.

Haven't played it for a while. Some guy was sniping people with an airplane one day and that was when I gave up on it as abandoned to cheaters.

BF1942 was awesome. Desert Combat was legendary. When BF2 came out, I was happy to see that it was modern combat, but the fact that gameplay was entirley different made it a dissapointing release. Actually, i recently bought BF2 to play again since I now had a machine more than capable of playing it, and I can't believe I spent as much time playing this horrible game as I originally did. Probably had to do with the money I spent upgrading my old rig just to play it.

I remember reading one of the game designers for DC say that they modeled the flight behavior of the helicopters in DC to be like that of RC ones in real life. No wonder it was so much fun! This made flying a skill that felt deep and intricate, and repeatable upon knowledge. The choppers in BF2 with their clumsy maneuvers and auto pilot hover has taken almost all the fun out of flying. Add to the fact that all you hear nonstop is excessively loud missile warning tones and I am ready to exit the game after 5 mins.

I stopped playing DC because there were no more than a handful of cheat packed servers left. Did it ever make a comeback? I really hope EA makes BF3 resemble DC for flight characteristics and map size/style, otherwise it will be a letdown again for avid 1942/DC fans.

Agreed. Is there any mod out there for BF2 that has something like this? Man that map rocked so much.
