256mb DDR PC2100

Leadtek Geforce 3 64mb DDR (FSAA off)

I have settings on 1024x768x16

It is very very choppy and there is alot of hard drive activity thruout the game. Is it because I don't have enough ram? I also get a virtual
memory low thing popping up saying that it has to increase it and some applications will be denied blah blah. I also check my Page file usage and it was up to 300mb and right now its 123mb just with IE explorer.

A bigger, faster hard drive would help (try getting a WD with 8mb cache.)

Oh yea, what OS are you using? I think this game runs better on 2000/XP. Make sure you download the latest patches, since I believe the netcode was to blame for some of the frameskip issues. In general this game is that one big reason to upgrade to GF4/Radeon 9700.

I've got a slightly slower machine than you and I get similar problems but its not THAT bad. What OS are you running?

Your video card should be fine. It won't get the highest resolutions with all the goodies turned on, but it should work at say 800x600 with some goodies on.

I would say RAM is your biggest problem. More RAM will reduce the amount of hard drive trashing that goes on. Your hard drive, albeit small by todays standards, is sufficient.

The best thing that would help is more RAM. Of course, a 9700 would help too.

Hmm dang, i have like 2 gigs free...i'm running win xp pro. its patched to 1.1 and i have service pack 1 for win xp. So who also agrees its the ram? (not enough)

I'm not ready to get a GF4, R9700 just yet 🙁 poor me...

it also takes a longggg time to loadddd

when the demo was out i had 256mb of ram and it would take a long time to load up, then when i upgraded to 512(still with the demo) the loading time went down ALOT...It also became less choppy when i was playing...

hmm yeah, demo takes quite a while for me to load too...damn! I need some ram...hoepfully OD still got those 24 dollar sticks of 256DDR

You know, for the graphics you get I'd say this game runs pretty pathetic on a 9700 even. 35fps at 1600x1200? I was advised that some sort of sound bug/setting may be to blame. Can someone fill me in on this? I use an Audigy Platinum.

Is it possible you have background applications running you don't know about... There's no reason it should give you the memory low error.....

yeah... you should run this on xp... and if you are , you should try to upgrade to 512...since xp is a memory hog....

Make sure you're running 11hz sound... if you run 22hz or 44hz it will make your system stutter no matter what setup you have.

I run 44hz, 800x600 32bit full detail, 50fps.

Radeon 64, Santa Cruz, P4 2.4, 768MB ram.

I had all sorts of problems initially, and my setup isn't too far off from yours...

P4a 2ghz
Asus p4s333
256mb DDR PC2100
40gb 5400 🙂Q) Fujitsu
MSI GeForce2 Pro 64mb (FSAA off)

I run on 1024x768x16

I get about 75fps on average, only dipping below 50fps in tough battles. I don't get the virtual memory problem of which you speak.

I tweaked about everything I could; I honestly don't remember everything I tweaked to get it where I am now, but it runs great... most of the time.

I still have a large problem with pixels not refreshing. Sometimes if I move a window around on screen, tons of pixels are left discolored. I have to refresh for it to go back....

Yes. If you have a SoundBlaster Live! card, particularly the 5.1, your framerates will be low. But there is a fix. Got this from my CS clan board:

THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO WIN98 OR WINME!!!
Download the v 1.1 patch and install it.
Then go to the settings folder in your BF1942 directory.
Look for a videodefaults.con file.. open it in notepad.
Look for a line that says "renderer.allowallrefreshrates 0"
change the 0 to a 1.
Save.
Start BF1942, select your new video mode (ie 1024x768 32bpp 75hz).
That should help you. I went from averaging 30 fps with drops down to 10, to an average of 60 with VERY sparse drops down to 20 in heavy firefights (5 tanks and 2 planes in a small area, lots of explosions etc etc)

i'm running this game on a p3-850, and even on the largest maps it runs amazingly well, even with all the graphics set to max. I too am running on a sb live, and maybe you just haven't seen what settings you need to set, so I'll mention them again so everyone who's having bad lag chugging can start to enjoy this game.

THIS APPLIES TO ALL FLAVORS OF WINDOWS!
All of the low frames per second is causes by your sound section in the game. You DON'T need a fast machine to play this well.
In your sound settings, turn hardware acceleration on. Change your sound detail to medium. When you change it to hardware accel, it should change the number of sound channels to 31, but if it doesn't, change it to something 31 or less. Now here's the most overlooked issue. This game seems to have issues with the sblive's multispeaker setup. You need to go into your surround sound mixer, and change your audio setup to 2 speaker mode. This is a utility that comes with your sb live. If you don't have these utilities, you can grab them for your sb live card here.

Guys.. this game runs great even on a p3-850... it's all about the sound... spread the word.

One more thing. If you're getting the stuttering in single player, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. The bots in this game cause a massive hit to your CPU. I don't care if you have a Pentium 4 2.8GHz processor and a Radeon 9700 Pro, this game will still run slow in single player with bots.
