I've tried reinstalling the game again. I've tried the command line +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 in the shorcut but it still drops to desktop straight away. Need help.

I had this exact same issue. The problem is that BF2 is trying to set a screen res/refresh rate that the monitor can't support. There are editable config files in the program directory. It's a little obscure but you can edit the parameters to change the screen res and refresh to what the monitor can support, i.e. 1280 x 1024 @ 60 hz. Then you can boot the game. If you don't want to do that then just reinstall.

So lets get this straight.. you were playing BF2 fine on your old monitor... you shut your PC off and hooked up your new monitor, and now the game doesn't work?

I would first try NO shortcut hacks and see if you can at least get into the game... Did you do anything else at all? swap your DVD drive or anything at all?

Have you since tried running the game without the CMD line hack? Try that if not.
I have a 2005fpw and I could NOT get that CMD line hack to work, did the same thing as you are getting. I had to create a custom resolution within the nV control panel so that I could use a non-standard res in-game.

I've seen this happen in other games with unsupported resolutions. Markbnj's answer was accurate. The quickest fix for most games is to see if you can run them in windowed mode temporarily (-w / -window) until you can get in-game and find a setting that works. But not all games support windowed mode, not sure if BF2 does or not.

Yes, but did you delete your profiles? Usually found in the My Documents folder. That's where your video settings are.

If you plug your old monitor back in, will it start up the game properly, now that you've reinstalled the game?

If not, then you may be running into the bug of the game needing to run at 800x600@60hz at start up. If you've done something to force the video card to run at a different refresh rate at this resolution, the game will crash to desktop.

Maybe take a look at the BF2 Tweak Guide's troubleshooting section to see if there is anything more that might help.
