Battle vs. Chess

I used to love playing the original Battle Chess around 20 years ago. If this is anywhere near as entertaining (the battle mode, at least) I think it could be quite popular.

You know I've always wondered what chess would be like if your pieces had healthbars & you had to engage in some kind of battle. So the piece capture wasn't automatic & having one piece capture all over the place would be tough b/c its health would decline.

And now I'll get to find out 😀

From a more CS side, if I'm understanding that article correctly, I'm really curious as to how they're adapting the Fritz engine to deal with the combat system. Like are they modifying it to take the finite health into account, or are they just feeding board positoins to Fritz and letting it evaluate?
