I can't help it though, I just enjoy T1 more than T2.

I wasn't commenting on T1 vs T2. There's nothing wrong with preferring T1.

Sorry, I don't want to derail the tread. I'm having a hard time choosing, because there are so many great sequels in the poll. I'm not sure which one I'd pick, but I know which ones don't deserve to be in the poll -
- European Vacation (based on the responses I'm guessing he had Christmas Vacation there before he was corrected?)
- Toy Story 2
- Temple of Doom
- Bad Boys II

European Vacation is my favourite Vacation film.

Tough call...I went with Aliens, but Godfather 2 and The Road Warrior gave it a run for the money, as did T2. The kicker was that while I enjoyed Alien, I enjoyed Godfather 1 and Mad Max more, and thus the original/sequel discrepancy was slightly smaller.

I think you're probably in the minority there. ;)

Probably, but I love it. It's actually sort of a tie with Christmas Vacation, it's pretty difficult for me to choose between the two.

IIRC European vacation had tits in it. So I think that puts it over the edge.

whats with the knocking of the original terminator?!? it was a bad ass movie for its time and considering it had a budget of $6m and a virtually unknown director whose previous work was 'piranha 2: the spawning'; i think it should be garnering a little more respect.

That's the issue. I feel the same about T2. It hasn't really stood the test of time, either. It hasn't aged well. There are a bunch of cheesy effects in that movie.

?? I just saw this again recently on a 65" Mitsu laser TV, and although it was just an upscaled DVD, I thought it held up really well overall, particularly when you compare it to *anything* else from the early 90s. T1 is also great, but looks ridiculous at many times, like when the termy is peeling the fake arm off.

Given the choices, I chose T2. It was tough to choose between T2 and The Empire Strikes Back, but Ahnold gets the nod!

Has to be the second movie in a series of movies. No third. Think I pretty much covered the only good sequels out there. Oh and Dark Knight isn't a sequel, it's a remake. That's why it's not in there plus everyone here would choose it so no DK.

Dark Knight most certainly is a sequel to Batman Begins. What previous Batman movie is Dark Knight a "remake of", exactly?

I guess he means it's a remake because the joker died in the first batman with michael keaton. If batman is starting over with batman begins and omitting all previous films then yes dark knight is a sequel.

T2.
I've never seen Star Wars 2.

You've never seen Empire Strikes Back? Fail.

No. Never. I saw the first Star Wars this year for the first time ever.

EDIT: actually, it was in November of last year, according to my blog.

Wait until you find out who Luke's father is. It'll BLOW YOUR MIND!!!

I already know. After the billion TV parodies and other jokes about it in popular media, it would be pretty stupid not knowing who Luke's father is.

Edit: It's Chewbacca, right?

Dark Knight is clearly a sequel and Dawn of the Dead is not.

Kill Bill Volume 2 really wasn't either, it was the second half of Kill Bill.

Neither is Two Towers. One of many reasons the poll is fail.

You need to specify if you want people to compare these sequels to their original or to each other. You can look at it either way. If we are comparing these films to each other then it's the Godfather Part II for me. If we are comparing them to their originals then probably Kill Bill 2.

I disagree, I really liked the first Terminator.

KT

It's darker, edgier, more grim. Ever sequel after it simply added more box office appeal and took away from the core concept.

Totally agree. The second movie is a fun ride and a great action movie, but the first film has much more depth and for me is the better movie.

When they made the first Lord Of the Rings movie they did not know it was going to have sequels. They were very grateful to get the first one out the door and did not know if others would be made.
BUT, it is most definitely one part of a larger story. I'd still call it a sequel because its also the 2nd of 3 seperate books.

HOWEVER, according to the featurette on the DVD's, the 3 books were originally one huge book that eventually got split so folks could pay for them easier. It came out when rationing was still happening in England.

I dunno. I'll say that since we are discussing movies, anytime there is a 2nd movie, separate from the first, we should consider it a sequel. Dark Knight is a sequel of Batman Begins, because its a whole new series of movies not related to any other movies (even though they are telling stories about the same characters). And since the Dark Knight story has never been told before, it cant be a remake.

Along those lines: They need to finish the story from HBO's Spawn.
