Cash's version is soooo much better - much more emotion. RIP

How about one where the remake is much better than the original?
Nena - 99 Red Balloons
Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons

The Goldfinger version:

That was one of the best covers ever!

Ann Wilson did a cover of "Going to California" at the Heart/Journey/Cheap Trick Concert the other week, and it was also one of the best covers I've ever heard.

How about this one:

Common People

Pulp vs. William Shatner

Listening to the Shatner version as I type this. I love Pulp, but Shatner just has the perfect voice for this song.

I laughed the first time I heard his version.

Rage wins that bout, hands down ;) Actually, Rage did a lot of remakes I thought were much better than the original. Personal preference, what can I say?

OK there is no way I can get a part 2 going, unless we have some organized way of picking the next 6. Too many songs.

Sooooo, um yeah. :)

I'm gonna say for Hallelujah that I like the Jeff Bukley version the most with the Bon Jovi version in second place.

I'm surprise "Gary Jules - Mad World" isn't winning by a much larger margin. As much as I like Tears for Fear (and I do listen to a lot of 80s), Jules version is so much more powerful.

Dunno if it's been said, but...

Tool - No Quarter > LZ - No Quarter
