Why cheap? I'm trading in my GF4MX-440 for something else which will give me TV output.

This is for my TV box which will be doing DVD and DivX as well as the occasional light game (P3-600EB)
Original card: Abit Siluro GF4MX-440, possibly VIVO since the TV out is not S-video... it's got 9 pins instead of 4+stabalizer. I'd get the Abit cable if I could get it real cheap here in Canada (Winnipeg).

My choices are:
Forsa MX4000 (straight swap) RULED OUT
Chaintech 5200 (+$20) nice middle-of-the-road...
Sapphire 9200SE (+$10)

I'm thinking either 5200 or 9200SE.... the MX-4000 is no faster than a GF2MX-400.

This system will use TV output ONLY! No monitor! 100% on TV output is a MUST! RCA output only... it's a cheap TV, no S-vid. Hey.... TV is a low priority and we're far from affluent.

Okay... opinions! AT, don't fail me now! :D

try to get a 9200 NON-Sucky Edition. As for S-vid, most cards come with adaptors or breakout boxes (that's why your current MX440 has 9 pins...it's for a breakout box. A regular S-video cable would work, but only for output).

Little known fact: S-video cables are the same as old Apple keyboard cables. 9-pin S-video (like to a breakout box) are old Apple printer cables.

You chose a good avatar. There's no 5700 or 9200-regular in that list. ;)

If I was willing to spend a bunch of cash on a TV box I'd have just grabbed a Shuttle XPC from the beginning. CHEAP is the order of the day!

I'm leaning towards the 5200 over the 9200SE, provided that 5200 is 128-bit! Heck, even if it isn't it wins the benchmarks.

And I'd take Chaintech over Forsa.

How would the S-video cable work?? Just break off the plastic tab from the middle/bottom? It *would* fit on there if I did so..... hmmmm..... That almost deserves a thread of its own!!

Of those 2, the 5200 is marginally better. But neither is really a big step up from the GF2MX/GF4000 in terms of performance.

You might want to look at, say, a 9600 non-pro -- they can be had for under $100 new at times. You might also be able to find a used Ti4200 with VIVO for ~$75. Of course, if gaming performance doesn't matter, the card you pick is almost irrelevant...
