I have a 2001 Focus w/ original battery that has 80k miles on it. Thinking I should replace the battery. Do you agree it may be time to change it for preventive maintenance. If so, where should I get it and how much should I spend? I'm not sure if I should get the cheapest thing at walmart or what. I don't need an Optima battery, so don't recommend one of those please. Thanks for your time.

Is it cold where you live in the winter time if so get a good battery spend like 45-50 bills

Which is just about every lead acid automotive battery out there. 😉

If you don't need an Optima, it probably doesen't really matter what you buy.

Why do you think you need a new one? Have you been doing preventative maintenance on your battery?

My battery took a crap last night. Got a jump and drove over to Costco for a replacement. Cost me $48. Took about 45 minutes to replace it since the old battery was corroded as hell. One of the terminal connectors was a solid block of battery goo.
Take a look at your battery, and if it is showing any sign of corrosion, replace it. Otherwise you are going to have a mess on your hands.

lol, you don't need to replace a battery because of corrosion on the terminals, you need to replace a battery because it has sulphated internally and no longer holds charge.

Hint: There's no reason why a lead acid automotive battery can't last 10-15 years.

Most people don't realize that you need to check the State of Charge of each cell and add distilled water as necessary every 6 months. This would greatly extend the life of ALL automotive batteries.

Id wouldnt recommend getting a battery from walmart. goto your local auto store and get a battery. If your going to buy a new battery, look for one that offer a good cold starting crankage amperage that like 700+ and a high crankage amp at 32 degree

my duralast battery is rated for 720 cold crankage amp and 900 crankage amp at 32 degee and 100 reserve
