Battery useage and Google Play services

No improvement - even with Google Play Services 4.1.31, having location services use wifi makes a significant difference on my Note 3 running JB 4.3.

With 'use wifi' on, Google Services is the #2 battery drain, using 15-18%. With 'use wifi' off, it doesn't appear in my top 10 at all (so low single digits at most).

Dissapointing that the newest Play Services doesn't improve this at all on JB 4.3.

It does for me. If I didn't use my phone most the day Play Services would be at 30+ %. Now it is at 6. This is on 4.4 though.

I'm at about 20% drain today with wifi off even with the latest Google Play Services. Google Location Reporting is on.

I have Location Reporting Off. Looks like the only improvement will come once 4.4 is out on our devices - which is good news that Poland got the 4.4.2 update to the Note 3 today.

Right but location reporting off is already supposed to not eat much battery up. I didn't have issues on 4.0.34 or whatever the previous version was, and the Play services didn't show up in my battery screen.

Google Play Services 4.1 "improves battery life for all users with Google Location Reporting enabled," which leads me to believe the improvement is mainly for those who have location reporting enabled.

What I'm reporting was this morning I still saw ~20% drain from Google Play Services with location reporting on on 4.1

my nexus 7 2013 tablet is getting killed by Google Services eating all the battery. i have location services set to OFF and i lose over 50% of battery overnight on standbye. WTF my standby used to be phenomenal.

Location service (off) is BS. Even Wi-Fi devices with location service off will constantly try to find out where they are. I wish Congress will pass a bill that stops corporations from doing this.

found out the culprit. DS Battery Saver Pro. it works great on my S4 to preserve battery life very well. But with Kit Kat it just does not play well. Uninstalled it this morning, lost only 1% during 5 hours of standby

I have the opposite problem. GPS = low battery usage and WiFi & mobile = high battery usage.

GPS is known to drain battery more than WiFi/Mobile.

Not for a lot of people here. Most in the thread change it to GPS only to improve battery life. Probably because google play services is not working correctly with WiFi/Mobile.

Yes but GPS seems to start up on its own for no reason on my Nexus 10. It does drain a bit, but probably less than when the mobile networks cause 10000+ wakelocks a day

After a few days, I'm sad to say they really haven't improved it. Still get much lower battery impact using GPS only.

Really... I wanted to jump the gun and say it helped. Of course no one's done a controlled test, so who knows?

I haven't tested the wifi only, but high accuracy was still eating up 25% of my battery. Where as device only is ~9%. Keep in mind this is /w low device usage so I expect them to be somewhat high but not this high.

I'm on high accuracy always. Do you have wifi always scanning on? I have that off.

Nope...well I guess yes lol... I said nope but now I just did a wipe and flash and forgot to turn it back off. I'll change it and see how it looks for the rest of the day.
