Battery remaining indicator & Windows don't agree.

I'm not sure if it's the laptop or it's the battery. The battery would be fully charged at 100% indicated by its built-in indicator and Windows would also say 100% charged. But when using it for playing MP3 with Windows Media, it would drop to 0% (if I disable warnings) within 10-15 minutes depending, but it can be used for an additional 15-20 minutes after hitting zero.

I tried reseting the battery built-in meter by draining it once until Windows hit 5% and go into hibernation. That didn't fix the meter. So I disabled all the alarms and let the laptop sit idling. The laptop remained on for more than an hour (remember that it's idling and not doing anything at all). If I had used it, then it would last for about 15-30 minutes max. However, the "complete" drain didn't fix the meter either.

When Windows says there's 0% left, and I turn off the laptop and check the battery's meter, then it would say 25% remaining. So is it the battery, Windows, or motherboard circuitry that's causing the differences?

Yes, I'm using Windows XP Professional. I'm not sure what you mean by power management drivers. In Device Manager, it says ACPI PC compliant and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. I can set the warning levels. So I think my drivers are installed.

If you're talking about SpeedStep or PowerNow technologies, then those things are working. I'm using SpeedSwitchXP v1.4 and most of the time, I set it to run at Max Battery or about 500MHz instead of 1.2GHz max or dynamic switching.
