What kind of battery should I get for my 2005 Nissan Maxima? The major temperature stress here is heat, but we usually get a couple weeks below freezing. I don't need the top of the line, but I would like something nice and reliable.

Right now I am considering the Die Hard Gold (South) from Sears for $110, or a Duralast from AutoZone for $90.

Johnson Controls makes good batteries... Johnson Controls apparently is the sole supplier for Wal-Mart's batteries. Check there... I believe they sell Energizer. I installed an Energizer into my dads Max for him a few years ago, it cranks great in all temps!
 
Interstate makes excellent batteries too. Can't go wrong with a Sears Diehard Golld/Platinum line either.

then again most batteries are made by the same few companies, the Autozone one should be fine
 
Yea most auto batteries come from only a small group of makers now. So go with what is either the cheapest or easist to get to.

Costco has some that are a great price. Then theres Autozone, advance, walmart, sears, kmart, etc...
 
I just had to get one from Walmart. Bought one more than I wanted to spend, but at least its got plenty of amps and has a 3yr warranty. Plus they recycle your old battery for free.
 
Duralasts from Autozone are Johnson Controls batteries, if I'm not mistaken. 2 year free replacement, 7 rear pro-rated replacement.

Their mechanical parts are hit and miss, but their batteries are decent.
 
Wal Mart batteries are fine, and actually a good choice. Reason is, they don't stay on the shelf long, so you have a better chance at getting a fresh one. Batteries start discharging the moment they are made, so the longer one's been on the shelf, the more likely it won't last quite as long.
I think Wal Mart batteries are made by either Exide or Johnson Controls. As are most you can find.

stick with those 2 options.

Why? mainly due to warranty. Sears backs up their batteries, ive never heard of someone being declined for a warranty pending it was a legit warranty. That alone makes me go with them more. My 98 maxima is running on one Gold, 3or 5 year warranty i forget. No issues on its 6th year, never had to use it. My gf dad's chevy truck has one but it had a parasidic drain on it, so if its not started in 2-3 weeks its dead, sometimes it drains it so bad we need new one. I just bring the bare battery to them with the paperwork and walk out with new. 3rd time now.

Duralast should be in similiar matter, just never had the time to try it. If i was in a pinch and sears was out of my battery i would get one.

My 2005 G35, same battery as the 98 maxima and your 05 maxima, i was planning on going with diehard at $110 but i got a local deal for $55 on a interstate with 2 year warranty. Really most batteries are decent. Go with the cheapest you can find but use the diehard as a baseline. Some places will not always warranty their batteries, they might want to do starting and charging test on the car and if they find a problem they wont give you a battery.
 
Take the Sears battery. Reasonably priced and if it fails, there are Sears locations just about everywhere, so easy to find a replacement.
