This is driving me nuts. Samsung ATIV SmartPC 500T, Windows 8

A couple weeks ago, I noticed the battery was at 80-something percent. This thing is generally plugged in, because the keyboard it docks to is what I keep plugged in. If I head to the bathroom, or otherwise take it somewhere, I undock it, and it runs off the battery.

Well, when I noticed the problem, it ceased running if not plugged in. I get the message, battery plugged in, but not charging. It gives me the percent of battery remaining, which is very slowly dropping. Seems others have had this same problem on a number of devices.

I have tried the following: uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the battery. (No updates for the drivers.)

Reset the laptop to factory settings, leaving nothing behind.

All sorts of combinations of shutting it down and restarting, in combination with uninstalling the battery drivers. (AC power is now plugged directly into the device, not the keyboard, though that doesn't seem to make a difference.)

I've taken it apart and disconnected and reconnected the battery. With the battery disconnected, during a reboot, oddly, it reinstalls the battery drivers, despite that hardware not present. (I haven't removed the battery, and am assuming there's only one cable.)

I've noticed that when unplugged, sometimes, but not every time, the clock ends up incorrect. I've run the power troubleshooting multiple times (which doesn't even notice the lack of battery if it's disconnected).

Any ideas of other things I can try??
Thanks

Interestingly, I just reattached the cable for the battery, it had been disconnected for half an hour. It dropped from 14% iirc, down to 1%. Was at 45% on Tuesday before I got really serious about solving this.

Bad battery? Do they really go that suddenly? And, where the heck can I get a replacement battery? Edit, found plenty of used ones that have been tested. Had to peel off a pad from the battery to get the model number - putting it here, since I lack a pen at the moment... AA-PBZN2TP

edit edit: and battery now shows 8% but not charging.

BTW, for anyone who found this thread having a similar problem, half a dozen guitar picks works great for popping these things open carefully without damaging anything. Carefully insert pick between edge of screen and case and slowly add in a few more picks, sliding them (careful around the buttons) until one by one the little tabs unclick.

I had the same thing happen to my dell laptop, and yes, a new battery fixed it. My guess is you would have to send your tablet to samsung. Depending what they charge to do it, plus what you would pay for shipping it, getting a new tablet might be the way to go.
