Hi all. Going to be visiting Big Bear this weekend...which means I plan to enjoy myself there as well as take some pictures.

I've heard that batteries seem to drain a lot faster in the cold. I'm currently using some MAHAs...should I be fine? Or should I look to get something else?

And on a side note : unlike the beach...I don't have to worry about the environment in the snow...right? Well..save for dropping it in the snow ;)

They should work ok. What camera? Sometimes when it gets really cold your camera will actually function sluggishly. This is normal. As for spare batteries, keep them warm in a coat pocket or something.

I didn't have any problems with the genuine Nikon battery that came with my D80 when I took it skiing last July.

Agreed! Keep a spare set or two in your breast pocket. Be sure to let the equipment warm up properly (gradually) when you come back home or wherever you are staying to prevent excessive condensation buildup.
