Honestly, I'm not sure if would be considered a "port". I think it's based on the UT3 engine.

I got it from Steam on Thursday, and while I've not played it very much, it runs very well and works great with either a 360 controller or KB+M.

As mentioned in the original post, I'm one of those who regretfully missed out on this when it was on Steam a few days ago. I've never used D2D before, but I like the way Steam works. Are there any downsides/upsides to getting this through D2D instead of Steam? I play games on both my Laptop (NVidia 9600GT) and HTPC (Radeon HD 4670) with Steam.

I played the demo on my Laptop and loved it.

I finished it up last night and absolutely loved the game. I think anyone that likes Bioshock will really like this game. I was surprised to see that with 8xAA and 16X AF this brought my system down to single digit frame rates when in the garden section. When I turned it off, there was no problem. Crysis does not even bog down my computer that bad lol.

Don't forget to watch all the credits to see then end.

Actually, there is an upside, you can install it on any harddrive you want. Unlike Steam, which requires you to install the game on the harddrive that Steam resides, you can install a D2D game on any drive. Makes it easier if you are running out of space on your "Steam" drive, like I am.

Any problems installing it on my HTPC and laptop (there something about licenses in the D2D FAQ)? I prefer to game on my 46" HTPC but end up having to play on my Dell Precision m4400 when the TV is in use. Both system can handle the game and I can play on either one with Steam (just not at the same time).

Okay, different question: is this a console port?

Absolutely yes. The mouse sensitivity, by default, is very low. There is no option in the menus to change it. You have to go into your windows user directory to find the .ini and edit it manually. There is no manual game saving, it uses the checkpoint system. And to use the checkpoint system, the game requires you to be logged into Windows Games Live. I find it obnoxious because I'm already logged into steam to play the game, now I have to be in WGL too?

All that said, it's $25 for one of the better games of the year...

WOW everyone loves this game...but I don't A friend of mine has it...too scripted for me.

But at $25 any game is better at half price!

The game is scripted but actually somewhat open. In between tasks you can do some exploring of what is a stunning game world. THis is probably the best game I played the entire year.

And it actually works better with mouse and keyboard then with a gamepad. Quickly throwing stuff around is infinitely easier than on a gamepad.

According to the game (which I picked up last week from steam for $24) my nvida card (8800gts G92) is not sufficient for physx). Also even though I purchsed via steam it still requires on line activiation and who knows what other crappy drm was installed with it.

Remember that this game support PhysX from nVidia for extra eye candy.
