What do you all recommend for bathroom flooring? I've got sheet vinyl in my master bathroom now and I'm considering replacing it while doing some other work.

I have tile in another bathroom, which seems less than ideal for a bathroom that gets used everyday. Carpet is a no. Hardwood doesn't mix well with water. I don't like floating floors and laminate clicks and shifts around for me too much anyway. Seems like vinyl is about my only option? I see that Home Depot sells a bunch of vinyl plank flooring that looks like wood. Any opinions?
 
i used those in my crawl space.. suppose to be water tight after its sticker on. fairly cheap and fairly fast to put in.. just hard to cut, pretty thick
 
no to vinyl, harder to clean, very unnatural feeling, leaves spots, can produce mold, will lose form after few years. For few hundred dollars that you save in initial cost, you'll hate it everyday.
 
What's the problem with tiles in a bathroom?

I think any flooring other than tiles in a bathroom is odd.

Standard choices are tile and tile-like-vinyl.

Vinyl's often cheaper and a little bit softer

Tile is typically more expensive and labor intensive to put in and has no give.

Both are waterproof when installed correctly, and will last a very long time.

A lot of tile is pretty slippery when wet. Grout lines make cleanup very difficult, especially with a wife and dog that drop hair everywhere. Grout has to be resealed every so often to remain waterproof. Tile is cold. And the biggest one - wife said so.

To me, your best option is fancy sheet vinyl. Something marble-like to elevate your bathroom floor.

This. Don't use white tile either. Love the look but needs to be vacuumed every couple of days....sucks.

Cold? Put down heating underlayment. The wife will love you for that.
 
Vinyl sheet goods are had to beat in a bath. Water proof, easy to keep clean, cheap to install.
I don't get much call for it anymore though, everyone wants marble, or ceramic tile that looks like marble.
 
vinyl sheet for laundry room and kitchen. tile for bathroom.

or marble if you boss like someone said

How about a natural stone? Slate? Limestone? Marble?

Still needs to be sealed every so often, but it's a hell of a sight better than vinyl.
 
Tile

Just seal the grout and pay attention to the recommendations when installing it. That is, cement board is the best backer, use the proper trowel (it says right on them the size of tile they're supposed to be used for) and seal the grout.
 
I think you can buy grout now that advertises never needing sealed. I think it's a quartz based one. No clue on the truth in advertising on that.
