I am trying to get my mom and dad to start using a digital camera, but the problem is I can't figure out an easy idiot-proof way for them to compress the JPGs so they can send it to their friends/family members that use crappy email services like Hotmail or AOL. It's either force everyone to use Gmail, or show my parents a way to easily compress the JPGs. Normally I'd open a software app like Paint Shop or IR Fan View and resize/compress, then email the file. But is there a way to do this from the XP Shell or something so easy that a caveperson could do it?

You can batch convert and re size images with Irfanview, it's free.

I know, but it looks too complicated for my parents. I'm finally able to get them to start using laptops and digital computers. I have to find an idiot-proof way for them to compress the pics, like "right click, compress to email distributable size"

Why not set them up with Picasa? Not only is it powerful and simple to use, they can upload their photos to the web and share them with just a few clicks.

Didn't know there was a clone that worked with Vista

Sweet, thanks! I tried the Vista clone and it is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks darktubbly!

MrChad: I thought about that or photobucket. This way they can keep their photos on a site that their friends can access, but I realized it would be too complicated to teach them or at least trust that they remembered each step. The Powertoys requires: "Right-Click", Selecting the compression setting, and presto.
