Also some kids now request that instead of gifts, guests may choose to donate to a specific charity the kid is associated with, as part of their tzedakah projects in prep for their bat/bar mitzvah. The $18 rule would apply there as well, makes it more special.

Itunes card is nice gift. I have searched and found Yaldah magazine as one of the appropriate bat mitzvah gifts as it is totally Jewish themed and girl oriented. Special Jewish girls will definitely love it.
