Bastion thoughts!

What a game! Putting aside the fact I paid less than $3 for it during the steam summer sale this is one of the most memorable games I have played in a while. Yes it’s not perfect but that doesn’t matter. What it does, it does well. My only regret is not having all the weapons maxed out when I finished it.

I hit level 10 during the final part, had most weapons maxed, 7 Idols (used 5), and about 70% of achievements done. (ingame ones that reward with currency)
I tried most of the weapons extensively in the Pipe arena, and my Personal favourites ended up being the Pike + Fang Repeater. I did like the dual pistols but homing rounds won it for me. I used the Carbine a fair bit and tried the bow which is decent/good.
Again this is just my personal preference. I assume everyone has their own taste/combo.

TIP - get the life leech spirit ASAP it rocks

I REALLY hope they release a second game.
/Cheers to the developers!!! :awe:

Game was pretty fun but I couldn't get past the narrators voice. If he wasn't him, he sounded exactly like the guy on the AM/PM commercials. So every time I played the game all I could I think about was 2 rib sandwiches for $2.99

Odd, most people consider the narration a big part of what made Bastion good

I have to agree on the Narration/Music being top notch, in fact so much so that I doubt the game would have been as well received without it.
The comments when choosing weapons, when you fall, redo arenas, it all adds to the presentation.

Am I the only one who thought the game was average?

I appreciated the high polish & narrator-driven art direction, but the gameplay itself was alright. It got repetitive quickly for me (despite all the weapon combos).

I just finished the game and it pissed me off. You have to play through BOTH endings to get the "Complete The Story" acheivement. That makes no f*ckin' sense.

Other than that, I enjoyed the game, but I wouldn't call it amazing. I'd call it unique. I mashed on the levels with the dual pistols and fire bellows.

Shame we never got an Android port. When I saw it for iOS I had hope. This is the quality of gaming we should be seeing on mobile devices now but unfortunately only a few others are comparable.

I agree.. the hardware is suffice now.. just need the display and controls ironed out

I thought it wasn't very good. The gameplay is what counts and when the gameplay sucks like it does in Bastion then there's no saving the game.

I did like the narration and music though.

No, you picked the wrong ending first, I believe. I'm assuming you chose to press reset, which doesn't complete the story, it loops it back to the beginning. The idea being that we won't change when given the opportunity. History repeats itself, and you find yourself exactly where you started.

My personal GOTY 2011. Really loved the polish on this title. I don't think it's possible to max out in one playthrough BTW. Just start NewGame+ to finish maxing out. Make sure you get both endings.

I recommend doing the "reconstruct" ending first, and then the "move on" ending second, as your second play through will have the narrator add in little notes like "this seems familiar..."

Nope. I choose to stay with my "friends" and not undo the Calamity.

But regardless of the choice you make that should complete the story....and get you the damn achievement.

According to some random person on the Steam forums, you have to play through both endings to get that acheviement.

Your trend in comments is negative ThinClient... sometimes its better to not voice your opinion when your trend doesn't prove productive/positive.
Look at your track record.. speaks for itself. Please refrain from constant negativity.

Aye I see what you mean. I chose to repair the Bastion first play through and save him.
I will choose to leave him second time and not repair it. Looking forward to it.
🙂

The narration was interesting, and the combat strategic enough to get my interest, but I never felt like finishing the game. Good thing I got it on sale for $2.50.

Give yourself a chance to finish it... you will appreciate it (in my humble opinion)
