Looks like a good game...but it looks a whole lot like a reskin of Bastion.
That is not a bad thing.

That's exactly what I thought. But it could be a bad thing......I enjoyed Bastion and it was worth the $3 I paid Steam for it, but I'm not really interested in playing Bastion part #2......

Thanks to unexpected costs, I will not get to play this at launch. During the summer sale, whether it sees a discount or not, I will own it then. And the soundtrack.

I'm a little bummed they're not offering to have Darren Korb autograph a copy this time around.

No, he is not.

I can't remember her name, but Zia from Bastion will be the voice of the sword.

FYI, this game came out today. I've only seen IGN's review of it so far, and they gave it a 9.0. Their only qualm was that you can't adjust the camera angle, and there were a few times where structures obscured your character.

Was considering getting this game, but replayability is a big thing and if I'm going to play it a 2nd time, I'd be going through the same annoying camera angle and inability to change it. Still, 9 is a high score.

i started playing it yesterday... only like an hour maybe

The game kinda plays like bastion... instead of having a couple weapons to use, you always have the sword, although you learn new skills to use... this is where the game hooked me up
you have 4 slots for skills, but you learn more than 4 skills to use.
Each skill does something on its own, but they also have a effect if you attach it to another skill, which can completely change the way the skill works.

so, early in the game i already had 6 skills and 4 spots, so i spent a good amount of time experimenting with skills/effects to find a set of skills that i liked

for instance... you are given a piercing long-range shot that deals damage in a line, but you can decide to not use that skill and upgrade another one, increasing the range of whatever skill you attach it to

Pretty cool system if you ask me.

After having watched a video of this being played, I have to say it looks to be a lot more then just a re-skin of Bastion. It is obviously heavily influenced by Bastion, to the point that the two of these games nearly makes a new sub-genre of Bastion-like games, but there is enough originality to Transistor to make it it's own game.

combat system is nothing like Bastion

it's more like Diablo 3 if you want to try to play it real time, but I think you have to actually use its combat queuing system to really make effective use of the combat system so it's not really D3 like

ok, finally got to play some tonight. game is frikkin awesome. looks gorgeous. music kicks ass. combat system is pretty cool with the queuing up of skills. narration by the sword is really amazing, the voice acting is very well done.

i haven't gotten very far yet, but i really really like this game a lot.
of course, i loved bastion, so my immediate positive feelings about this game aren't too surprising. :p

I beat it in 4-5 hours. I enjoyed the combat for the first ~2 hours but the difficulty level dropped to nonexistent once I got "void" ability. I found this game highly overrated by critics and regular Joe's alike. There isn't really a story to the game, more just atmosphere/mood. It's a stylish game with nice graphics and sound and in my opinion a pretty decent combat system, but anything other than the combat was just boring for me and the combat started off easy and got much easier. I just sorta rushed through the combat and clicked doors for the last hour.

I feel like if they went a different direction instead of RPG they could have made a good game from the combat system. Either something like Gauntlet Legends or Binding of Isaac with a focus on combat/gameplay. Obviously void would need some nerfs.

I really feel this is a mediocre game though at best and when you take into account the length of only about 5 hours I'm not sure it's even mediocre. I don't see $20 for this game being fair. It felt like the first act of a larger game, an act where you are dumped into a world with no idea of what's going on and then in the second act a story starts to unfold and more world interaction/game systems are added, but it's actually the full game.

Anyone know if the game supports the 360 controller on PC?
Played with wired 360 controller

Is anyone else getting frequent crashes on this game? I quit playing it because of how bad it crashes. It seems to crash a lot when I'm removing a function from the sword in an access point, but it crashes in other places too. Setting my processor at stock clocks and disabling the steam overlay seemed to cut out a lot of the crashing, but it still crashes every single time when I complete Stability test 1 of 3 where you have to survive the process for 90 seconds and at other random times during play. What usually happens is I'll hear whatever sound effect was going on when the crash happened start repeating itself, and then the game is unresponsive with the music continuing to play in the background. I have to end the process from the task manager.

Anyone else have this problem and find a solution for it? I really like this game, but it's nearly unplayable for me right now.
