Bass enhancement?

I have CMI integrated audio that came with my Chaintech motherboard. I was looking through the included software to adjust my 5.1 volumes when I came across the option for Bass Enancement. What is it and what does it do?

EDIT: Well, while we're at it, what are all these slider bars on the Windows volume control window?
Wave, SW Synth, Mono In, CD Player, Aux, Line In?
 
The sliders in the Windows volume control window control the volume and balance of different types of sound outputs, several of which you have already noted.

The same application allows you to select control input sound sources and their relative input volumes.

CD Player, Aux, and Line-In are all related to inputs to the card. If you have an optical drive hooked up via an internal cable to your motherboard for example, you could adjust its volume with that slider. If you're not using these inputs, you can keep them muted.

Mono-In would be another input to it.

Wave will change your wave volume output.

I think SW Synth has to do with MIDI, but I'm not sure.

SW Synth = software synth is indeed MIDI.

My motherboard has 3 inputs, 1 for speakers, 1 for a mic and the blue one in between. The CMI extension gives me 2 extra sockets for my 5.1 sound.

What's that extra blue socket for? Also, I just bought a mic-headset with two jacks. The mic is working fine, but is there any way to hook up the headphones so I can switch between them and my speakers without unlugging anything?
 
The blue is usually line-in.

Depending on your motherboard, you may be able to configure another jack to be a stereo output so you have have headphones + speakers at once. Do your speakers have a headphone jack on them?

I've done it before for when I wanted to get a line going from the back of my case to my desk to plug headphones in. It works pretty well and sure beats fumbling in the back of the case 😉
