basketball question

one of my hobbies is playing basketball. i have a pretty good shot, but my bad handeling is average at best. how would i go about improving ball handeling?

practice. google is your friend.

edit: get two basketballs, dribble them with both hands. start out slow and watch your hand movements. you want to get to the point where you can control speed of both balls without thinking.

go to DOT, steal some cones - set them some distance apart, and practice dribbling slalom until your're good with both hands.

crossover practice - pass the ball back and forth between your legs until you can do it in a smooth motion.

you need to play against real good people, and watch them play - everybody almost has some routine, then when you're on the court you learn how to set up passes

practice, practice, practice.

Use a tennis ball to to practice, keep your head up.

And when you think you're done practicing, practice some more.

Try not to look at the ball while dribbling...

If you're better than that, dribble with your eyes closed I find you develop a better feel for the ball but thats just me.

When you go through the lane, tuck that ball under your chin. That way, your face will protect them from the hacking 😉

Slashing is really hard to learn, it's more of a innate thing from athletic ability.

lower your dribble, it's b/c your're either 1) boucing too damn slow and they time and pick your dribble. 2)bend more, your CG is too high.

you've just got to practice going to the hole with others defending you. if you have a friend, just practice against him, over and over..... Here are a few pointers I would give that might help out:

a.) know how to dribble with either hand so you can switch while going to the hole

b.) use your off hand to fend off defenders while you take it in (in a legal way)

c.) your body positioning is important as well when goin to the hoop. maybe you can try to back someone down and then put your body in between the defender and the ball as you go up.

d.) If you are taller than the other person, maybe you can keep the ball around your head as you go up....

e.) try to lower your dribble while you go in

practice is the best you can do. also, try to force yourself to do things during games, to become better at them (like dribbling and driving left).

If people are able to strip the ball when you try to go to the hole, it means you're doing one of two things: either you are telegraphing exactly what you're going to do with the ball (and thus making it easy for a defender to strip the ball), or you are not using your body to protect the ball (where possible). It takes a long time to do it properly, and practice against inferior players (like your little brother or something) will do you no good. You always have to try and play with people better and more skilled than yourself so you can learn from them and get better.

Ball almost never gets stripped from me. I usually bounce it right on my foot to have it go flying away.

Turnover stats are high, but people don't get steals from me!
