OK. Would you D3 defenders buy it to give to a friend as a gift?

The friends have the hardware to run it, already have it, and enjoy it greatly.

That's a little over the top, don't you think, when you consider hardly anybody on these boards liked it much.

I wouldn't say that. Most people I know are fans like me, just don't normally respond to these kind of anti-whatever threads.
You actually liked Doom iii?

😛

What is there to like?

And have you played HL2?

I can't imagine comparing the games . . . . HL2 is a masterpiece contrasting with the muddled stinking dog poo that is Doom iii . . . . the only people that i know that liked doom iii also think "Dawn of the Dead" is great moviemaking (i.e teenage boys) 😛)

I've played both(though I haven't finished Half Life 2) and I think they're about equal.
Both enjoyable, and both disappointments.

It wasn't as good as Far Cry, but it definitely wasn't bad by any means, IMO.

Dawn of the Dead is a masterpeice, and the second of a trilogy that practically invented the zombie genre, not to mention clearly inspiring many excellent computer games.

/refuses to acknowledge the 2004 movie as any relation to the Romero 1978 classic Dawn of the Dead.

I found DOOM3 quite fun personally. Well off the pace of several other id games, and inevitably dissapointing given the gaming community-imposed hype and expectations, but still better than the average.

Q: No, seriously, why is this being discussed? Especially now?

A: Cause not everybody bought it the day it came out.
A: Cause not everybody could imediatly put a finger on why they didn't like it.
A: Cause gameplay design decisions have no statute of limitations.

Then get with the fricking program. Doom 3 was August. It's over now.

Many people have different opinions of it three months later... I know I do.

Dawn of the Dead rocks the house.
I don't know what type of crack you need to be smoking not to understand that, but you better stop because you'll never be able to have fun watching a movie, ever.

As far as doom3 goes:
The gaming community is responisble for the over-hype. Ever since id announced they were going to make a single-player game called doom3 people have been freaking out all over it.

You had people that actually paid attention to years of complete bullsh1t and random speculation, each imaginative fantasy piled on top of one another over and over and over again. And guess what? Suprise! the game didn't live up to the hype. No game can live up to that kind of hype.

You know why?
Because it's JUST A VIDEO GAME, not the everlasting everloving cure for cancer or something like that.

And guess what? I built a computer for my family and installed two games on it. Far Cry and Doom3. I originally just built it for doom3 (and a small handfull of other games) and so my dad can play around with his guitar and cubase and stuff like that on it, but I thought that maybe all the people burning on Doom3 (although I liked it personally) possibly had a point and they generally raved on about how much Far Cry rocked so I bought that and installed it for them.

Guess which game they play and which game they don't even touch except for 10 minutes a few months ago?
Far Cry was the definate loser in that case, and they play Doom3 constantly. I played Far Cry for a little bit myself and it was OK, but I didn't realy understand what people were freaking out about.

Now you have all these weirdos trying to make it a big HL2 vs Doom3 thing and getting all up tight and loud about it, and frankly it comes off as kinda pathetic.

I am personally not going to get HL2 for myself. Why? Because the Steam and DRM stuff sucks. It's pointless and it's a intrusion on my computer by a third party and I don't appreciate it at all.

Guess what, in a few months there will be a game that will blow the doors off of HL2 and it's a waste of time and money to get all freakish about it.
