when i built my house, i ran cat6 to every room in the house - with the ends terminating in a patch panel in the basement.
due to budget contraints, i never finished the network (just left the cable modem beside my computer in the bedroom)
now i need another non-wireless PC in another room - there's cat6 in the wall, but unterminated
my question is this:
can i run a network cable from my router (next to my pc) INTO the wall jack by my computer (currently un-used), then patch that cable over in the basement (patch panel) to connect to the cat6 in the other room?
if so, do i use a normal network cable or a crossover?
also, when i terminated the patch panel i don't remember what standard i used 🙁
if i use the other standard in a wall jack will it not work?
sorry for the lengthy noob questions
