I just bought a d-link do-704 router so 2 computers will share my cable connection. Will My 2 computers have a static or dynamic IP when I use this router?
Thanks

By default, (I believe) the computers on the "Inside" get DHCP addresses. You can turn the DHCP server off if you'd like, and just assign some addresses. For two computers, it's not gonna make any difference either way.

If you already have addresses assigned by your ISP, use one on e the 'WAN" side of the router, and do whatever you want with the other one....but, DO NOT use the ISP addresses on the Inside....the router won't work if you do.

Good Luck

Yep, adding to what ScottMac said....

Assuming you let your computers use DHCP and the router automatically assigns address, the internal address their assigned may change depending on reboot cycles, etc.

The easiest way to keep them constant is to just turn off DHCP and manually assign internal addresses (i.e. 192.168.0.1 for example)

The main thing, though, is to remember that those computers behind the router will NOT be visible to the outside world. The only way to effectively access them is to enable port forwarding for certain ports on the router.
