Basic question from a noobish type

Quick question for those in the know...

I built my own rig about 4 years ago and I am thinking of an up grade/rebuild. Since I have built it, I must admit I have lost some of my tech savy and haven't played techy in awhile. My question is this; I currently have an Antec SOHO style ATX case with 475 watt power supply, can anyone think of a reason why I couldn't use these parts in my new build? I am concerned about things like connectors and wires, have any of these standards changed? And what is the life expectancy of a power supply anyway? My computer is often on 24/7 for the last 4+ years. So suggestions/ideas? Should I just pony up and by new stuff or can I get more use out of what I have?

Thanks in advance 🙂

You can keep the case but the powersupply will most likely have to go. A modern powersupply has a 24pin connection with an additional 4 pin for the CPU and numerous SATA and PCIe connectors. You can probably get away with using an older 24 pin PSU, say without PCIe connectors, but using a 20pin ATX PSU is probably asking for trouble.

If you know the brand and model of your PSU post it and we can give you a better answer.

The power supply is made by antec and came with the case couldn't easily find the model number, I also notice that it is 430 not 475 watt...me thinks I'll be buyin new
