Basic Overclocking help

Right now I have a socket 939 Athlon 64 3000+ (1.8Ghz) on an Abit A8V motherboard with 2GB (4x 512mb) RAM. I need to get the processor speed up to 2.0Ghz. The Abit mobo came with a program called OCGuru, but I've never overclocked before, and I'd rather not fry the system, as I'm not going to be able to any new system buying for another couple years. Is this a small enough jump in clocking that the stock heatsink and fan would be OK? If it's easier to just point me in the direction of a basic guide, that's good too. Thanks for the help.

if u're worried about frying, then oc isn't for u. nor is stock. although amd did ship some pretty decent stock hsfs with the 939s.

aside from that, google amd 939 overclocking and u'll get a ton of results, including basic guides.

If you don't increase the voltage, then you can pretty much do whatever you want. While it depends a lot on your chip (My week 17 Venice did 2.4Ghz with stock volts), you should EASILY be able to get 200Mhz out of that at stock volts. I'd say even 400Mhz should be a no-brainer if it's a Venice.

Increasing volts is going to crank up the heat a lot more than just increasing FSB speed.

I agree though. Read some guides before you start.
