I bought the Antec Sonata case. I need 1 more case fan. 120mm and i need thermal compound.

What fan should i go for , moderately cheap, good cooling.
Should i be going w/ artic silver 5 ? does it really work better than the others?

I bought retail cpu. ill change heatsink/fan when i have money

Heatsink compounds are only as good as the installation. I use Ceramique because I have big giant tube of it. I lap my heatsinks so they are flat and uniform. I don't have to use very much compound.

If the Ceramique is being sold at a significant discount to AS5, get the Ceramique.

Beware that you potentially void your CPU warranty by using a third party heatsink compound.

can i OC a 3000+ w/ the stock compound? i think ill need to go w/ arctic silver 5. As long as i put a thin even coat w/ a business car or something i shouldnt have a problem w/ my cpu should i?

Well, if ur gunna start oc'ing, u may wanna get 3rd party hs/f. AS5 will help some, but the AMD cooler will hold u back also. If you want to spend some more, a thermalright XP-90 or XP-120, thermaltake Venus 12, or Zalman 7000 or 7700 may be what you wanna get. My Zalman is quiet enough, but it doesnt cool the greatest (probably because of my 2 thermal pastes on the CPU...long story).

Oh, and i wouldnt use a business car to spread AS5, might crush the CPU core! (j/k, i know it's a typo)...
