I see a 19" CRT monitor for £110 and the other £300, I know the more expensive has faster refresh rates and finer dp, but is there a real need to go with the more expensive apart from gaming and graphic design? Will the less expensive blind you or what is the problems with it?

Cheers,
Neil.

Depends on the specific monitor. Many brands, like Samsung/Samtron, have monitors at low cost that have the same clarity at the low-end, but the high-end does the faster refresh rates and has better color and less glare. CTX and Samsung I know from experience make excellent monitors through their whole product lines. None are bad, but the more expensive ones are indeed better.

I'm getting a nice iiyama (was going for the ctx before, but something change my mind). I've never actually stood infront of two monitors, one being a low end and the other high end to be able to tell the difference in quality... but is the difference worth about £150 between the both?

I don't know. In most cases it is either obvious, there's a crappy video card (like one of the bad GF2s), or you're the kind of person who will never notice it. I prefer getting unknown monitors from a B&M store, so they can be returned, just in case they are crappy.
