I am building a basic file server / remote access machine. I want to be able to share files in my condo as well as access my files while I am traveling for business and be able to start and stop torrents remotely.

Here are the specs I was planning on:

MSI Wind PC - $115
Crucial 1GB SO-DIMM - $0
Western Digital "Green" 1TB HD - $88.50
Windows Home Server - $99

Like I said, very basic. Any feedback would be appreciated.

EDIT: Updated Specs

I dropped the DVD rom drive and will be installing WHS from a thumb drive. I also decided to use a 1GB stick of RAM I had lying around.

For the things I'll be using this for, I assume 1GB will be enough?

Thanks. I guess the other thing I was wondering is if the MSI Wind PC is the best value or if I can get a cheaper case and board and cpu separately. I kinda doubt it tho.

for what you are doing, I would go as cheap as possible.

I need to get off my butt and pick up a copy of WHS and set up my shuttle box.

So does what I'm doing qualify as "as cheap as possible"? Seems pretty cheap to me.

$140 for a low-power CPU, motherboard, case and PSU is about as cheap as you're going to get.

If you found a great deal on an Antec NSK 3xxx or 4xxx case (which is quiet and has a good PSU) you might be able to use a faster dual-core AMD processor instead, but the system would be 2-3 times the size of the Wind.
