Basic Electronics / Wiring Question

So, here's what I'd like to do: I'd like to construct an electronic switch that would take allow switching between two incoming blocks of contacts (~8 if it matters) to one output block of contacts. I'd like to be able to switch between these with a single, simple on/off style switch. It would seem to me that this could be accomplished with the use of some handy transistors, but being inexperianced in such matters, I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a little concrete guidence on how to do this. Thanks.

Peace,
will

What voltage and current are you proposing? There are many solutions, but ampacity and voltage level are the key design elements.

It sounds as though he isn't talking about much of either....

I do not know the answer to the question, however.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you are trying to do.

Do you want to be able to select one of eight inputs to go to one output?

How do you want to switch? A hand toggle or using an electrical signal and what is generating the electrical signal?

There are rotary switches that would select one of X inputs to go to an output. Fairly expensive but might be worth it depending on what you need.

There are multiplexar ICs(integrated circuits chips) that will switch multiple inputs to one output.

Need more info. The devil is in the details.
