basic chemistry help with pH please

I'm covering the topic of acids and bases now, i'm completely lost on finding out pH if i'm given a H3O+ concentration with a decimal.

I.E. 1.15 x 10^-6.

If it's just 10^-6 it'll be ph of 6 but the decimal completely throws me off. Can anyone help?

just -log the entire number. It'll be really close to 6.

pOH=-log[OH-]
pH=-log[H30+]

pH+pOH=14

etc, etc, etc..

Yup, logarithmic scale.

Grab your scientific calculator and try it yourself:
-log(1x10^-4) = pH 4
-log(1x10^-5) = pH 5
-log(2x10^-5) = pH 4.7
-log(3x10^-5) = pH 4.5
-log(4x10^-5) = pH 4.4 etc.

[H+]*[OH-] = 1e-14 🙂

pH and pOH are derived from that.

I actually greatly preferred Biochem to Gen Chem.. while it may be more difficult (sometimes) it's definitely less f'ing boring. PChem.. ick.

As far as I've seen, PChem >> Intro to Biochem. Maybe because the intro biochem class required tons and tons of memorization.

Haha.... I remember taking ANAL-ytical Chem. That was a joy. Remember, we need 4 SIGNIFICANT FIGURES! Thousandths of grams! Don't touch the beaker with bare fingers, you'll change the mass!

Then I took Organic Chem, where the teacher laughed at me because I was using Chem-wipes to handle everything. He told me "Don't you know 99% of O-chem labs is just swish and stir for a couple hours?"
