Subaru Impreza, looks alright, AWD helps a lot around here in the winter. The downside is the mileage is bad compare with other compact cars.

Not in the price range above... but a nice car.

Well out of your list i prefer the looks of the mazda3 but i don't think its nearly the most economical. I have a 08 accord which is huge as you know and gets better gas mileage than the 3. The 3 is a whole lot of fun to drive though. If you want something really economical then i would go with the civic. If you look at the yaris and fit they don't get THAT much better gas mileage and they look like you would be screwed in a wreck and i think the looks aren't that great eventhough the FIT has won a lot of awards though. The civic si also looks pretty dang good but you have to put premium in it although fuel cost would still be pretty low because of gas mileage.

I like the Mazda 3. But 15k won't really buy one. It's a higher class than most of the cars you mentioned.

It's not impossible, but you can get close, if you shop hard, and are willing to take whatever the dealer has. Didn't someone here walk OTD in the 15k range and a mazda3?

Its the end of the year, you could probably get a 07 for 15k newspaper special.
