Sorry to day this about that baseball player but if he's going out of his way way to make such statements this probably applies. I mean why else would you give a fuck who other people are attracted to?

I'm a little late getting back into this thread, but I'd like to clarify my comment.

If we are talking about MLB as a private organization and employer, then I agree they have the right to punish/suspend employment if the actions were contrary to league policy or guidelines.

If (as I was inferring) that people want the government to act or put pressure on the league for these actions, then I stand by my statement.

I hope that those that rightfully pointed that out are consistent in that belief that private organizations and employers should be able to take action when behavior runs contrary to their rules. I recall opinions to the contrary in the thread about the executive that was fired for his actions at a chick-fil-a

A baseball player named Yunel Escobar had a "homophobic" slur under his eyes on the eye-black. The Toronto Blue Jays have scheduled a meeting to address this issue

People are accusing him of being anti-gay and say he should face more discipline.

This is freedom of speech and he has the right to do this, he shouldn't face discipline because he was just using freedom of speech and you dont have the right to not be offended.

People are also calling him to apologize to the gay community, I dont think he should have to do that, This is political correctness run amok

Do you agree that he had the right to do this and shouldn't face any discipline? Is freedom of speech under attack by political correctness?

LOL, you're a real daft twat, aren't you?

Another troll thread by the OP. Lock this shit up.

OP, why don't you walk around your office with a sign on your back saying, "You are a lovely human'. Freedom of speech.

I bet you don't. Troll.

NOBODY pointed that out, no one has even mentioned it until you realized your earlier comment was stupid and started to backpedal.

I doubt he was intentionally trying to insult gays. I lived in Miami for some years and that's a common insult employed, typically against straights.

It's like when one guy insults another by calling them a cun7. It's not a war on vaginas; it's another word that has taken on a different meaning.

Insensitive? Yes.

Stupid? Yes.

But IDK I'd issue a huge penalty unless it's generally against the rules to have insults written on your eye 'black'. (And I think it should be. It's totally unprofessional to say the least.) I also think that poor behavior of this sort is to be expected (unfortunately) as long as our pro teams recruit uneducated people living in poverty from some ghetto. Those places aren't known for inculcating the best behavior and judgement.

Suspended by the Jays for three games, with salary being donated.

Says he's embarrassed, done it before and didn't realize the cultural significance. Him, and apparently other latin media, say it's not the same in latin culture as the literal translated.

I don't think it has anything to do with him being a conservative. Just ignorant. He's one of those people who would rather wave the Constitution in the air all the time as opposed to taking the time to read and understand it.

You are aware he would have gotten a round of applause at a Republican debate.

Perhaps. I prefer not to speak in absolutes based on the actions of a few. Happens far too much on this forum and it's quite unfair to so many from either "side".

can we get a fricking ban on this troll poster until he at least learns the difference between "there," "their," and "they're;" and "your" and "you're"?

It is never a typo with this guy, as he is consistently shitty with grammar every fricking time he posts.

I don't know if he's just trying to play a roll of "idiot, uneducated white supremacist," but...well :hmm:

....I guess he's doing it rather effectively.

:\

move along....

He has the right to put that there all he wants. Since he probably has contract with a "morality clause", his employer has the right to enforce it.

He is not fearing any government action or jail-time.

Easy stuff to understand here guys.

On another note, he could have easilty called somone a lovely human in the locker room, and nothing would have happened to him. Sports locker rooms are the pinnacle of "macho" homophobia. His mistake was making it public, where management HAS to react.

If anything, he should be suspended for stupidity.

On a side note, the whole "conservative" crap is intellectually dishonest. Minorities are about as homophobic as any "hick" white guy. African-americans are the most homphobic of all.

I think they should fire his ass.

You are free to be a bigot and a shithead but it is also his employers right to fire him... even if it is just because of backlash.

You are confused. Gays are not off limits if he protested with a sign on public property that called someone a i love you.

Again, there is no government sanction threat here. This is an employer making a decision.
