Barton & Temperature...

I just put in a Barton 2800 (running at 2.088 ghz) and I was surprised by the temp being so low. It is running at 40C. It is just 2 degrees higher than my mobo is running. Bios was giving me an extra 10 degrees on it until I updated BIOS (Asus deluxe). I did not use Arctic because it had not arrived yet but went ahead and mounted w/ heatpad and I don't think I will bother changing it now. Still having problems with the ethernet onboard and no one seems willing to help... 🙁... JFYI...

The Barton has a few cooling tricks up its sleeve, including the S2K Bus Disconnect and the larger surface-to-heat ratio. Now, what's the problem with your onboard ethernet exactly? What board you got?

Thank you for asking. i have been pulling my hair out. I just started putting the board thru its paces w/ p95. I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe. It is the first time I have changed out mobo so I am a real noob at it but seems to be going good except for onboard networking. I stuck in my old NIC in but would like to use the integrated one(s). i have downloaded latest drivers and ran 3com diagnoistics but it really does not help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks for helping.

What version of Windows do you have? If you look in Windows Device Manglement, are the onboard NICs listed under Network Controllers? What issues are you having?

I am running XP pro and the hardware device mangler says it is ok but when I switch my rj45 to the onboard NIC I get nothing.

My processor temp has maxed out at 48 degrees after an hour of p95...

It kept crappin out after about 10 secs until I pulled the crucial mem out of the 3rd slot. I have two samsung PC2700 x 256 sticks in #1 and #2. My last mobo did not like that config either (MSI KT3 Ultra)

If Windows is seeing the NICs then you basically have a Windows networking problem to be resolved. Look in Windows' Networking area in Control Panel and right-click the NIC you want to use, and see if you can see your way from there. Otherwise, post in either Networking or else Operating Systems for help from people with firsthand knowledge on the subject perhaps 😀
