Barton magic steppings

so im fixing to hit the Seoul Electronics Market this friday.

there are many people trying to sell CPU's, im going to buy a new 2500 or 2600+.

i need to know those magic steppings to get to high speeds.

i have been shopping for an A64, but i checked what they have, and all they have are 2800+'s, and they arent even newcastles, so i guess they got old, stale CPU's.

anyway, if anyone can list a few steppings they have had luck with, i would appreciate it.

this nf2 setup i am running right now is my first AMD rig and its time to upgrade from this 1800+ palomino.

TIA

Get a mobile 2600+. People are getting 2.6GHz or more out of some of them. At 2.6GHz an AXP chip is a complete monster. The stepping code most are favoring is IQHYA which just so happens to be the code of my mobile 2500+. 🙂

Well, if you are buying retail I doubt you are going to find any magic desktop chips for sale. The later desktop Bartons are all multiplier locked. I have no idea what to recommend to you. 🙁

I wish I could say. Let me ask you this: why do you think that they'll be selling older unlocked desktop Bartons but not the new unlocked mobile Bartons?

because most of the hardware they have here in korea is slightly outdated here.

id imagine that they dont receive too many shipments and i see old stuff there all the time. such as finding only first edition Athlon64's.

Any XP-M can crack 2.6 Ghz on air, without any issues. The 2200, 2400 and 2600 XP-M are about the same, and the biggest difference seems to be price. The 35 Watt ones seem ever so slightly better than the non-35 watt versions, though it's not worth the extra $ to pass up a good deal on the regular XP-M versions.
