Barton 2500+ Overclock with PC2700 DDR

The first thing I tried was to run the Barton at 11x200 at 1.75 V with 100% memory freq. This runs the DDR at PC3200 speeds, but it isn't stable no matter what timings I choose. Vdimm is at 2.8.

So, I have to run the DDR at 83% memory frequency, which runs it at the standard 166 mhz. But this is asynchronous, and I heard that it is best to run the FSB and memory at the same speeds on an AMD.

RAM is generic brand 1 GB. 1x512 in 1 channel and 2x256 in 2nd channel. At current, the timings are 7-2-2-2.5.

Is there any way for me to get a more effective overclock? (ie increase multiplier, decrease FSB, and run memory at 100%)

Not much else you can do with that ram. Either run the highest multiplier@166fsb and run the ram at it's normal speeds or go buy some better ram. Upping only the fsb and not the memory doesn't really increase performance much.

just been working on it. I've set the multiplier low, timings to 8-3-3-3, and was able to take the RAM up to 183 mhz. With 7-2-2-2.5 the RAM will not go over stock speed and run memtest. Think that will work with a x12 multiplier?

I run 200x11 at stock voltage with pc2100....I have to run it at 3:2 but hey, I have a 3200, so it's a tough call. Definitely running 1:1 is ideal, but sometimes it's cooler to have a 200x11 vs 13.5x166... even though I'm running really async, I still got a lot better scores @ 200x11 3:2 than 13.5x166 5:4 in SiSoft.

12x at 200fsb? It's worth a try. Set the cpu to the speeds you want at 200fsb but leave the ram at it's 166 speeds. Then run a benchmark. 3dmark2001se, pcmark2002, sisoft sandra, whatever. Right down the results. Then up the ram to what you said and run the benchmarks again. See if you get better performance. You should. As long as it's stable. Best thing would be to get some good ddr400 ram though.

No, I meant 12x183. 183 is stable with my RAM at 8-3-3-3. I have just run Prime 95, it passed the 1024 K test. Gonna try PCmark2002 now.
