Barton 2500 or ...?

OK, I'm upgrading from my T-Bird 900mhz and since I don't really keep up with the CPU news, I was wondering what all the buzz about the AMD Barton 2500+ was. I'm wondering if the Barton is a good processor, or should I go with something like a Athlon XP 2600? They're about the same price, but I was wondering if someone could fill me in on the Barton 2500. Just look around on the boards... check out badass overclocks people are getting from the 2500+'s

they are built on Barton core with 512kb L2 cache as opposed to 256kb on other models...

the Barton core is sold in up to 3200+ speeds, and if they dont pass testing and satisfy AMD as a 3200+, they are marked down to 2500+, so they are nearly almost guaranteed to overclock to 3200+, most on default voltage...

most 2500+ will oc to 3200+

but dont forget the 2600+ OCs as well.

on a whole, i would go with the 2500+ if OCing, and 2600+ if not ocing.

either way, it is gonna be a nice upgrade from the t-bird 900

Most likely won't be using it for OC'ing. I'll take a look at some tutorials and such and see how easy it is to do this, and maybe I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the help again.

oh its definitely worth looking into...

Just buy a decent stick of PC3200 (Corsair )
couldnt be more effortless with the 2500+, the multiplier is already the same as a 3200+
just up the FSB speed to 200(x2=400DDR FSB) in the BIOS

if its not completely stable (it fails Stress Test in 'Prime 95'), raise voltage one notch and test again!

done and done!

Well, I have a couple systems currently, and I say that it does not really matter. I have my 2400+ TBred B at 2.28GHz (2x190MHz FSB) right now; the voltage is at 1.725. The Barton is about the same, but since the clock starts at 11, and not 15 because of the std FSB, it will not hit that mark. Both systems are running the same motherboard (A7N8X Deluxe). The Barton does have more cache, but the performance is not that much better. Both the TBred and the Barton are good OCers, so go with what you want.
