I like the alx and appreciate you recomending but can not find in stock, but here are some that I am looking @ and can't find a good review site.

1. thermaltake volcano 10+ and up to 12
2. ocz gladiator
3. pc toys quiet max 5100(listed @ svc)
4. cooler master alps silet heat pipe
was going to have a fifth but found the pc toys for $5.95-cheap and if doesn't work not a big deal
-ok they wanted 8 bux for shipping-

Ok I have made a decision I have ordered the coolermaster alps silent heat pipe for $28 from gameve.com will post my temps when get it

Just installed my TT SilentBoost. According to SpeedFan, my system idles at 43C and peaks at 46C under load (Prime95, CPU intensive benchmark). The, I installed MSI's CoreCenter, and it says my idle temp is 38C. Which one's right? Who knows.. maybe MSI, it gives me more info and it's actually made for my motherboard, so maybe my temps are better than I've thought all along?

But overall, I like the TT SB. Works well, easy to install, and not bad for the price... $20 w/ fan. Sure is better than stock!

Welp the best socket A heatsink is the Thermalright SI-97, the SLK-900A was also pretty good and the ALX-800 was good as long as you had a high speed fan, pretty much just get a decent Thermalright Model that takes an 80mm or better fan and you'll be safe, the Silent boost is also a decent choice if you replace the fan w/ something w/ more CFM.

I had an SLK-900A w/ a 92mm Panaflo H1A on my 2500+ running at 11x210, 1.75v I got like 41C load

I practically stole the SLK900A though, SVC had them onsale for $20, I think sug. retail is like $45 ?

I just installed a Thermaltake (I know, I know!) Silent Boost for my Barton 2500+. I'm currently running it at 200x11 (it's mult locked) at 1.70V and it's rock solid. Never tops 46C under full load. Goes back to 38C idle. Good enough for me I guess.

ok got the new hs but the fan isn't big enough so have to upgrade that. it came with a 60mm fan so have to get an adapter and put a 80mm on it. temps before chnge were running up again to 52c with new sink 45c but not constant without load. have not checked with load yet due to I think to hot yet will post when get new fan and some better thermal past, the coolermaster not holdng up think will get some ceramique and see if that works and lap the new sink(have 600 grit wet/dry) the highest I can find @ menards

Montec, I hate to be the bearer of bad news....

I had to look up the heatsink you bought. Here's a link to it if anyone is interested.

Don't even think about putting a 60->80mm adapter on that heatsink. The single clip locking mechanism is insufficient to support much weight. It may break off a mounting tab on your socket.

My suggestion would be to make sure that the fan is "blowing" down onto the heatsink and live with it.

Don't waste your money on different thermal compound and time on lapping.
The real problem is you bought a cooler designed to be silent, not cool.

Most cheap 80mm hs/f units will probably outperform the coolermaster. (at least from a cooling standpoint)
