All right, you've swayed me on the Bonds vs. Helton argument. It's gonna take a lot more than that to convince me of Pre-2000 Bonds's all-time greatness, though.

All right, you've swayed me on the Bonds vs. Helton argument. It's gonna take a lot more than that to convince me of Pre-2000 Bonds's all-time greatness, though.

Compare a pre 2000 Bonds to Mattingly, except lower peak (mattingly was better in his peak) but bonds was consistent for more years. mattingly did it for 10 yrs, bonds by that point had done it for 14 yrs.

is mattingly an all time great (he's not a HOFer by most peoples definitions because he didn't do it for long enough, bonds did do it for long enough).

let's approach it another way.

Pre 2000 bonds statistics make him a to 100 player all time. there is no way you can argue against that.

it could easily be argued that a pre 2000 bonds on statistics alone is top 50 all time.

is that great? who knows. mattingly is considered an all time great and yet his numbers don't match up with a pre 2000 bonds.

Well, yeah. Bonds really bothers me. I would love to get on the Bond's bandwagon, but what he's done is tragic to me, not great. His attitude and outright lies on taking roids makes me despise him. I actually used to like the Bonds/Bonilla Pirates, but what he's done in the past 5 years combined with his arrogance have turned me completely.

BTW I'm comparing pre-2000 Bonds to Helton, and Helton looks like a better hitter. Definitely not better overall, but a better hitter.

how about a pre 2000 bonds vs a helton NOT in colorado?

helton is soo overrated it's not even funny. i'd take a chipper jones or even a David Wright of the Mets over Tod Helton.
