1 he implies people are innocent till proven guilty. (true)

2 he says, hey we don't go in your offices and interview you constantly. why do you do it here?

3. he say, Everyone else polices themselves, "all of you lied or have lied", he says of the reporters, implying that lying by a reporter would be as bad as doing steroids by an athlete.

overall i agree. OK, so the story has been broken, steroids is a problem, let baseball deal with it.

everytime we find out an author / reporter lied in a column, should we go after every pulitzer winning reporter saying, "no way they could have done it without cheating?"

I think the only message he'll ever send is that he's a cheater and ruined the meaning of the game. People like that don't deserve any respect, nor should they be paid millions of dollars to participate in that farce. Give that money to teachers, the real role models people should admire.

I'm sure they do much more extensive research about the person's work, such as validating sources, checking it thoroughly, etc. They don't just hand someone the award saying "hey nice work, we really don't care if it's someone elses work or if its complete bullshit, so here's a pulitzer." There's much more policing in top journalism then there is in baseball, is my guess.

True in criminal court. It is false in any other sense. The media and society deems you guilty unless you prove yourself innocent. I like it that way too.

If you don't like fame, don't enter a career based around it.

So all improper or immoral acts are equivalent? Is speeding 1 mph over the speed limit equivalent to murder?

If he's brought in significant revenue for the organization he works for, then I'm afraid he's worth every single penny.

and baseball does need to institute real legitimate drug testing programs.

i don't know. Ken Griffey Jr was pretty amazing before his rash of injuries. ARod is probably better than bonds.

Ruth is clearly the best player ever.

yeah and i agree this is baseball's fault, but whose fault in baseball is it...

personally i think the players union is the most at fault...and when hollowed records are being shattered it should be the players who have to answer to why they thought they could get away with this...because it was them who refused to sign any contract that had drug testing

roids or not, this is true (in the modern era anyway, hard to compare bonds to guys fromthe '20's). Even if he DID use them, how many players have you seen that can pick a single pitch like bonds? the man is as skilled a baseball player as there is. Granted, IF he used roids, tha probably inflated his HR totals some, but that doesnt take awy his greatness. He'd still be one of th emost feared hitters in the game. At any rate, the only person in this world who knows if Bonds took roids knowingly is Bonds himself. So stop saying he cheated. You dont know it, I dont know it, and the media sure as hell doesnt.

agreed, by no means do i mean in my first post that i believe that there are no problems in baseball.

shoot, i hope that this will provide impetus for the weakening of the players union in baseball. this will be better overall for baseball.

Baseball in general is messed up. From the commisioner, to the owners, to the player's union.

It's a shame.

There is a difference between dollar worth and integrity, sad most people are blinded by the difference. There isn't a sport that hasn't been tainted by greed. I remember loving baseball as a kid, admiring people for their abilities. No wait, we want more money to hit a ball with a wooden stick. It's not about the game anymore, it's about how much you're going to pay to keep me. Same with hockey. Same with lengthening race tracks so multiple cars can race along side each other increasing the risk of injury. That's what people want to see right? That's what brings in the money?

Who are the heros of tomorrow? Some roid shooting pussy with 30 endorsements? What happened to the 'sport' in sports? Can you see it in million dollar commericals for gatorade and nike? Is it visible in charging 80+ dollars for a pair of basketball shoes? Is it measured in how many carats you have on your body? Where have all the heros gone?

I'd say that publishing false information in a newspaper is a worse act than cheating at sports, but that's just me.

i think you have way overstated the fact. do i agree that players have been somewhat greedy? yes, but not that much more so than anyone else with the same opportunities.

the audience of sports, movies, music is just as much to blame as the recipients of the big money contracts.

Its quotes like this that show pure ignorance. I guess Roger Maris must have been doing roids when he broke Ruth's record. He hit 39 homeruns, the follwing year he hit 61, the year after 33. What's interesting is he didn't hit even hit 30 hrs before or after these 3 years. I guess Brady Anderson was doing something the year he hit 50. A player who had never even hit 25 before or after. I could go through dozens and dozens of players. How about Roger Clemens, who by the way has been mentioned as well as to having done roids. He still throws like he's 25. I mean hell they all must be cheating in some way right. Its amazing how completely ignorant people are. Especially about roids.

Might want to re-read YOUR fist line to what you said..
"Its quotes like this that show pure ignorance"
Seems that fits YOUR post even more so.
