1600+ XP
Vantec hs/fan
MSI K7T266 Pro2
256MB Cruical Ram

can't seem to get any higher than 1.5ghz. played with various settings of voltage, fsb and multipler but no success.

he meant how are the positive voltage rails holding up under load?
are they relatively close to what they are supposed to be?

try leaving the fsb and upping the mult only

how much vcore did you give?

ahh. the memories of my first overclocking experiences =)

one thing you have to keep in mind is, will ur PSU supply enough power to the MB and CPU, and also if you have alot of peripherals (HDDs, Sound Cards, CD-Drives, etc) you are bound to have a drop in power from a relatively weak PSU, like Champion said, look at the Volt Rails, and see how they are, if they drop even 1v under full load or even not in full load, you gotta worry.

as far as that goes, make sure have a sufficient HSF cooling the CPU, this includes the HS, fan type, and also the thermal interface used (i highly suggest AS3).

another thing, you more then likely have a Palamino Core and ur Multipliers are locked, look into getting them unlocked so you can try and broaden ur multiplier overclock range, and not just your FSB overclock range, (tho it is most prefered since you will get better perfomance)

if anything, hope this helps. but provide us with more info as to what else you are doing while OCing.

Also keep in mind the early 1600+s didn't OC all that great. Mine only goes to 1450mhz completely stable, take it to 1500 and it's 99.9% stable, but will still lock up in MOH eventually. Did by both multiplier and FSB, it just doesn't like to go faster. I can post and run for long periods at 1800+, but crashes when used hard, could even post and sometimes load windows at 1900+. So yeah it will OC, but far as stable... two different things.

(This with two different power supplies, Alpha PAL8045...etc etc...chip just likes to run near stock speeds)
