I think you can download the font somewhere but I don't know where

Barcode readers in a store only decodes the barcode and look the decoded message up in the catalogue to check if the item is valid.

They do not tell you what the decoded message is

the font makes no difference on a real barcode....the scanner reads the Bars...not the numbers (the numbers represent what the bars "say"...in case the scanner cannot read them)

Odds are it will display the read value. Ever notice on receipts the barcode is frequently displayed along with the item description?

The other option is to borrow a barcode reader, they aren't expensive & aren't that uncommon. They operate as a HID, & input text exactly as if you typed it on the keyboard. If you had a keyghost or something similar you could likely intercept the data from a POS device (if it didn't already display the read value).

USB CCD readers are only about $50-75, & they're handy to have around.

If you want data matrix be prepared to spend a little more.

Also now that I think about it I'm pretty sure there are shareware/freeware barcode apps that will read an image file.

That should do it too.

I tried dling Barcode 39 font and tried to compare "The" but it doesnt match.
Eym-Barcode-Reader reads only 1D barcode so my barcode isnt detectable.

The closest match is Barcode 128. "The" looks alike but one bar seems to be matching as far as the bar and the spacing. However, only one bar is unaccounted for and I will ask that person to verify the img has 8 bar on "The" or 9 bar that is shown in barcode 128.

P.S I cant really use any USB CCD readers. It's expensive for what I'm trying to do - solving a riddle posed by a friend.

You have the codes for A-Z, plus the words in the sample, so use that to break out the codes for each letter and then decode your message ;)

I dont know where does it starts and where does it ends. A letter might have 3 or 4 bar. How can I tell the difference?

There are 4 total bar code fonts I know of. It's a standard and all those lines are basically ASCII characters.

EDIT: There might be more than 4.

I just copied and pasted that from a site. You can find that same list very easily. That list doesn't include 2-d symbologies though. :)
