barbecue potatoes?

Can you barbecue potatoes? If so, what are some tasty ways I can do that, that would go along a steak?
 
I don't think they'll cook on the inside if you BBQ/Grill them. You can bake them, and then grill them for some aesthetics. I've been known to be wrong, however.
 
You can't really BBQ potatos, just doesn't work. You can however grill potatos. Cut into slices, add peppers and onion, plenty of salt and pepper, bacon grease or vegetable oil and throw into aluminum foil and fold into packet/pouch.

It will take 20+ minutes and you can finish them on the grill to crisp them up once they're mostly done.

Wrap whole potato in foil with butter and spices as desired.
Jam 2 washed 16 penny nails into potato letting the nail stick out 2" throw on coals.
Wait about 30 min. Remove from fire, remove foil enjoy.
 
We grilled sweet potatoes/yams once. Par-boil the potatoes so they were mostly cooked, but not falling apart. Let them cool thoroughly (in the fridge for a while if possible) then cut them in very thick slices, then throw them on the grill and glaze them with a honey/bourbon I think it was this)/bacon/fresh thyme/s&p mixture. They were all smoky, sticky, bacony, and pretty freaking amazing.

I make campfire potatos on the grill... pretty much as described above. Make a foil packet, then I put carrots, onions, and potatos in it. I've put cajun sausage in it as well. Butter, garlic salt, pepper. Takes about 45 minutes to cook that way.
 
Cube red potatoes into 1" chuncks. Mix in a bowl with diced onion/peppers/jalapenos, toss with olive oil, kosher salt, pepper, and herbs. Put in aluminum foil folded over and crimped to make an airtight pouch. Grill for 35-45 minutes.

Substitute this with sweet tators and toss in a little bit of rib rub seasoning and you have a winner.

Also I've been really grilling up veggies and have a porcelin coated cast iron veggie pan. It does wonders on the grill - veggies come out perfect and not burnt but still have a nice little bit of char on them. You could do potatoes this way as well.

Agree on tossing some rub in with them, or in a pinch (get it, pinch?) you could just use onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne, chili powder, black pepper and cumin.

How to grill potatoes:

Red potatoes are a must. Do not peel.
Cut up into about 1/2 inch cubes and place into a mixing bowl
Add lots of salt, pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, season-all, italian seasoning, and cajun seasoning
Dice some onion and toss it in
Drain some canned corn, and toss the corn into the mixture
Add olive oil
Mix everything up and wrap it all in tin-foil
Put a few tabs of butter on the top before you close the foil

Toss package onto grill (no need to mix or turn it, just let it sit there and cook)
 
i've never tried smoking potatoes, but all these people telling you that you can't grill/bbq potatoes are obviously inexperienced. a grill is basically the same as an oven. just wash em, salt one side, and leave them in the oven with the lid down and the temp up for a while and you've got baked potatoes. leave in longer the lower the temp.

Find a grocery store that sells Szeged Rib Rub.

Buy this and sprikle it on the potatoes. Quarter them and bake for 30 minutes...drizle some olive oil on them and then some more rib rub....then broil for 3-5 more minutes.

You can cook them in indirect heat on a BBQ, say on a top rack wrapped in foil.

Or, you can do them this way:

Take a few long sprigs of fresh rosemary and soak in water for 1 hour.

8-9 baby red potatoes, cut them in half, do not peel.

Boil potatoes slowly in water for about 20 minutes then strain out the water and rinse.

Take a plastic zip lock bag with some fresh chopped garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper and marintate the potatoes in that mixture for 30 minutes or so.

Put the rosemary on the grill surface and lay the potatoes flesh side down on the rosemary.

Cook on low to medium heat for 20 minutes and serve.

Whatever you do, do not burn the rosemary! This is why soaking it in water is so important.

I'll bet you could just throw some shrimps and sausage in there and have an all-in-one meal.

 
quarter them, throw in some onion, and bell pepper, spice or sauce to taste, wrap in tin foil, throw in the fire. just be careful pulling them out.
