<< That's righ outer square. Most hostage situations end with the release of hostages. It's usually to make a point or used for ransom. Therefore, it's better for them to sit tight. Just as police officers suggest you to not attack a robber because your money is cheaper than your life, these people most likely did not move. The victims on the plane had no idea that they were not to live, which is a tragic ending
The one thing we can be glad of is that they would have hardly had time to react. A passenger in a plane cannot see where the plane is going, as all they can see out are the side windows. At most, they would have seen themselves flying over NY, and then would have been killed quickly in the crash.
